On Thursday July 7, 2016 the German Juggernaut will take on the host country France for a trip to the finals of the European Cup Championship against either Portugal or Wales. The odds makers are giving France a slight edge to get the victory at +180.

France has had an impressive run to the semifinals, especially with their 5-2 win over Iceland in the quarterfinals, but they really have yet to play a big power. On the other side of the coin Germany played to a draw in group play facing Poland and then beat Italy in the quarters.

Germany will be shorthanded in this match and may likely be very shorthanded. Mats Hummels is out after his 2nd yellow card in the win over Italy and Mario Gomez is out with an injury. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira are both injured and are big question marks for this HUGE match.

France haven't beaten Germany at a tournament since was back in 1958.

Can the French crack a German back line that has a clean sheet in four of their five Euro matches? Olivier Giroud was one of the five players that scored a goal for France in their 5-2 drubbing of Iceland in the quarters and he has scored a goal in each of his last two starts facing Germany. He and MF Paul Pogba are the two players the German defense really has to key on.

France has won their last two major tournaments they have hosted in the 1998 World Cup and the 1984 European Championship.

Mesut Ozil scored the lone regulation goal in the quarterfinal win over Italy and he and the likes of fellow MF Toni Kroos must play well in the midfield and both push forward on the attack to help Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller and also help on the back line.

France has the advantage of playing on home soil, but Germany is an all-around solid team that had advanced to the semifinals of the last six major tournaments.

Germany vs France Free Pick

Look for a hard fought battle in this one and while Germany is the better team overall I think France will come out ahead 2-1 scoring in extra time to advance to the final.
