Reduced Vig

REDUCED JUICE BETTING
So, you're new to the online sportsbook scene and you want to find the right sports book that will help you fatten your pockets instead of emptying them. Many sports betting newbies believe a good way to start cashing in are bonuses that give you money, such as an initial percentage deposit bonus. Sure, starting out with an extra $20 on top of your $100 deposit is alright, but if you really want to increase your chances of cashing in, your best bet is to reduce the juice.

What's the juice you may be asking? Well, the juice, or the vig as it is also commonly called, is the sportsbook's commission it charges to take your bet and make themselves money. At the majority of sportsbooks online the juice is 10 per cent, meaning to take home $100 on a wager you must put down $110. The best way to keep your pockets lined with extra cash is to find a sportsbook that offers less than 110 lines and put you money on their table.

One of our recommended sportsbooks, Pinnacle Sports, offers the lowest juice online at 105 lines. This means to pocket $100 off a bet you only have to put down $105, instead of the $110 at most of the other books. Five bucks may not seem like a lot, but it can really add up and make a difference to how lined your pockets might be over time. Let's take a look at a couple examples.

To make a profit in sports betting you've got to pick the winners, everybody knows that. But, not everyone knows that playing reduced juice lowers the winning percentage you need to break even. If you're playing the standard 110 you have to win 52.38 per cent of the time just to break even and not give the sportsbook any of your hard earned cash. But, when you're betting at 105 the winning percentage needed to break even is reduced to 51.22 per cent. These winning percentages may seem low to the beginner, but even the top professional handicapper considers a winning percentage of over 60 per cent a good season.

Still don't think a $5 bet differential is very much coin? Well, let's look at another example. Let's say you're making 10 bets per week on the standard 110 line. Over an entire year you would have bet $57,200. If you were making the same bets over at Pinnacle for $105 per bet you would have wagered only $54,600, a savings of $2,600. Knowing that you're $2,600 is safely in your pocket instead of hinging on a player's next free-throw is easier on the nerves and will put more money in your pocket after a season of betting, win or lose. Even if you only bet five times per week you still save $1,300 per year. Over time what seems like a small amount can grow into quite a small fortune.

If you're still skeptical about reduced juice, although I can't see how after the last example, here's one last example that shows the benefit of 105 to 110 juice. By putting down $105 instead of $110 over time you are making in essence free wagers. Here's how. By betting $105 at Pinnacle instead of $110 elsewhere you are gaining .476 of a wager for every 10 bets. This is just fractionally under half a bet per 10 wagers. So statistically speaking after placing 20 bets for $105, instead of $110, you are placing one free bet. The more wagers you make the more free bets you get. For 100 wagers you are making five free. For 500 wagers you're getting 25 free. On our example of 10 bets per week you would receive 52 free bets over a year.

Hopefully these three examples have shown you how reducing the juice can improve your chances of cashing in online. By betting 110 when 105 is available you're simply throwing away $5 every time you make a wager. Not only are you risking your money on the game, but you're throwing money away before the game has even started.
