NFL Early Preseason Betting
There has only been one week of games so far in the NFL preseason and already everything is going to the dogs.
After 16 games were played in the opening week of the preseason, the underdogs have been proving the oddsmakers foolish and paying off any dogs bettors who have been wise enough, or perhaps lucky enough, to stay in the doghouse.
In those 16 games, the favorite was an abysmal 6-10 ATS. Things looked a little better for the favorites straight-up as the exact opposite proved to be true with the favorites posting a 10-6 SU record.
The home team has been chosen as the favorite in 14 of 16 games so far this season, but have not been too kind to home bettors having only covered the spread in six of those games. The visiting team failed to cover the spread in both games in which they were favored in Week 1. In Week 1 the home teams were 11-5 SU, making the visitors a lacklustre 5-11.
Early odds for Week 2 still prominently favor the home team. Out of 16 Week 2 games, the home team has been chosen as the early favorite in 15 of them. The only game not to have the home team as the favorite may end up that way eventually, as it opened as a pick'em.
Any bettors who have been sticking with the favorites ATS have hopefully been playing the UNDER to balance out their losses. So far the scoring in the preseason has been quite low, which has resulted in an overall OVER/UNDER mark of 4-11-1.
In the 16 games so far only 520 points have been scored - or an average of 32.5 points per game. Conversely, the average over/under total this season has been 37.2. Don't be surprised if the totals for games in Week 2 are set a little lower to try and buck the UNDER trend.
