Friday marks the opening of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy, but since odds are now up at various books you can already start betting on the Olympics.

At Nine Sportsbook, Germany is currently listed as the favorite to pick up the most total medals in Turin at -150. The Germans are followed by the United States (+200), and Norway (+300). Here is the complete list of current odds:

Back at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Germany won the medal derby with 36, followed by the United States with 34 and Norway with 25. The rest of the totals were Canada (17), Austria (17), Russia (13), Italy (13), France (11), Switzerland (11), China (8), Holland (8), Finland (7), Sweden (7), and Korea Republic (4).

Norway led the way with 13 gold medals at Salt Lake City, followed by Germany (12), and the United States (10). Canada won seven gold medals back in 2002, Russia won five, and no other country won more than four.
