Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Odds - Free Pick
We already know that the Carolina Panthers will not be returning to the postseason this year and this Sunday they will try and end the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ fading hopes to earn a spot in the field when these two NFC South Division foes clash at Raymond James Stadium. Game time has been set for 1 p.m. (ET) and it will broadcast nationally on FOX.
Carolina at Tampa Bay Game Overview
The Panthers have been pretty much riding out the string since mid-November with a straight-up 3-4 record in their last seven games and on the year they are 6-9 SU with a 5-8-2 record against the spread. The total has gone OVER in three of their last five games including a 33-16 loss to Atlanta this past Sunday as three-point home favorites on a closing line of 48.5. Carolina is 2-4-1 ATS in seven previous road games this year
Despite the fact that this is a division matchup, it is hard to see the Panthers playing with all that much intensity given just how disappointing this entire season has been. Cam Newton took a major step backwards following a league MVP performance in 2015 and it last week’s lethargic loss to Atlanta he completed just 18-of-43 attempts for 198 yards. He was sacked twice and picked off twice in that game.
Tampa Bay is clinging to a wish and a prayer as far as its chances to still make the playoffs after losing its last two games to Dallas and New Orleans on the road as an underdog. The Buccaneers are now 8-7 SU with a 9-6 record ATS. The total went OVER the closing 53-point line against the Saints in this past Sunday’s 31-24 loss as three-point underdogs after staying UNDER or ending as a PUSH in their previous five contests. Tampa Bay has gone 3-4 ATS in seven home games this year.
Legitimate playoff teams find ways to win games this time of year while teams that have been strangers to the postseason for quite some time tend to implode down the stretch. The Buccaneers’ last playoff appearance was in 2007 and it appears that this drought will continue behind an offense that could only manage 349 total yards this past Sunday against a New Orleans’ defense that is ranked 25th in that same category.
Carolina at Tampa Bay Game Betting Trends
- The Panthers have failed to cover in nine of their last 13 games and they have just two SU wins in their last nine road games. The total has gone OVER in five of their last seven games played on the road.
- The Buccaneers have lost 18 of their last 24 home games SU and they have gone 3-6 ATS in their last nine games at home. The total has gone OVER in three of their last five home games.
- Head-to-head in this division matchup, Carolina has won five of the last seven meetings SU, but Tampa Bay struck first blood this season with a 17-14 victory on Oct. 10 as a 5.5-point road underdog. The total has gone OVER in eight of the last 12 meetings in Tampa Bay.
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Prediction
Carolina is still playing for a certain sense of pride, but that has not really been able to get it done lately. Tampa Bay has an outside shot at the last wild card spot in the NFC, but its play the past two weeks points to a team that is still not ready to take that next step.
The Buccaneers may be able to get the SU win at home to pull off the season sweep against their division rivals, but the “best bet” pick in this one is the UNDER on the current 46.5-point line. I see both defenses getting the best of each other’s struggling offense this Sunday in Tampa Bay.
