Odds to win the 2013 Pac 12 Conference Title

David Schwab

We're less than a month away from the start of another college football season and to get you ready for all the action we have been busy breaking down the futures odds for all the major conferences in terms of some of the favorites' chances to win this year's title. This time around we will dig into the numbers for the best of the Pac-12.

The following is a brief preview of a few of the top contenders to win the Pac 12 this season based on odds provided by 5Dimes.eu. We have also listed the current odds for all the teams in the conference that did not make the list.

Oregon Ducks

  • Odds to win the Pac-12 North Division -110
  • Odds to win the Pac-12 Championship +190
  • Odds to win a BCS Championship +925

The Ducks dodged a major bullet after the NCAA handed down its sanctions for recruiting violations but decided not to impose any postseason ban. They come into the 2013 season as favorites to win the Pac-12 after getting upended by Stanford last season by three points in overtime. That was their only loss of the season against 12 wins.

Chip Kelly is gone as Oregon's head coach, but his replacement Mark Helfrich will have plenty of talent to work with especially on offense with nine starters back from last year's squad. Marcus Mariota was sensational as a freshman with 2,677 yards passing and 32 touchdowns to go along with 752 yards and five scores on the ground. The defense returns seven starters from last year including its entire secondary.

Stanford Cardinal

  • Odds to win the Pac-12 North Division +255
  • Odds to win the Pac-12 Championship +475
  • Odds to win a BCS Championship +2600

No matter how many players the Cardinal seem to lose each season, they have been able to quickly reload which was never more evident than last season's run to a 12-2 record that included a 20-14 victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

Stanford will have the luxury of returning 10 starters from a defense that ended the 2012 season ranked 11th in the nation is points allowed; giving-up an average of 17.2 points a game. The offense will have seven starters back from last year including a good chunk of its offensive line that featured All-American tackle David Yankey. Kevin Hogan is expected to get the starting nod at quarterback and also returns as the team's leading rusher with 263 yards on the ground last season.

USC Trojans

  • Odds to win the Pac-12 South Division +260
  • Odds to win the Pac-12 Championship +600
  • Odds to win a BCS Championship +5500

USC will quickly try and put the 2012 season in its rear view mirror after going from the preseason favorite to win a BCS title to a mediocre 7-6 record overall and a 5-4 record in conference play. Things remained bad right to the bitter end with a 21-7 loss to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl.

The Trojans will turn to Max Wittek as Matt Barkley's replacement at quarterback, but they will have eight returning starters on that side of the ball including All-American wide receiver Maquise Lee. He led the team with 118 receptions for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. USC expects to have eight starters back on defense as well. This unit finished the 2012 season ranked 40th in the nation in points allowed (24.3).

UCLA Bruins

  • Odds to win the Pac-12 South Division +280
  • Odds to win the Pac-12 Championship + 650
  • Odds to win a BCS Championship +8000

The Bruins are coming-off back-to-back South Division titles in the Pac-12, but both seasons ended on a sour note with losses in the title game. Last season, they stumbled down the stretch with three-straight losses to close-out the year at 9-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

UCLA lost a good deal of talent from its skill positions on offense but it is more than confident in Brett Hundley's ability to lead this squad. In his first season as a starter, he threw for 3,745 yards and 29 touchdowns. He will have his favorite target back in the fold as well in Shaq Evans, who led the team with 60 receptions for 877 yards. The Bruins' defense returns six starters from a unit that had its share of problems keeping opponents off the board at times last year; allowing an average of 27.6 points a game.

The odds to win the Pac-12 for the rest of the North Division have Oregon State at +950, Washington at +1400 and California and Washington State at +5000.

The odds to win the conference for the remaining teams in the South start with Arizona State at +700, Arizona at +850, Utah at +1600 and Colorado at +15000.
