<p>
The 70-57 Baltimore Orioles set to take on the 65-61 New York Yankees in New York tonight in the opener of a three game set. The first pitch at Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET.
</p>
<p>
In their last games: The Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 5-0 and the Orioles lost to the Washington Nationals 4-0. NY scored five runs on nine hits and three pitchers combined to hold Seattle scoreless. Baltimore found themselves on the other side of a shut out managing just three hits and zero runs while Washington scored four runs on 10 hits for the win,

<p>
The Orioles had their three-game win streak snapped in their last game and they are in 3rd place in the AL East only one game back of the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox. They currently hold the top spot in the AL Wild Card standings. Baltimore ranks a solid 8th in the Majors in runs scored, but only 21st in team ERA.
</p>
<p>
The Yankees have won two in a row where they have scored 10 runs and only given up one. Catcher Gary Sanchez was called up from the Minors three weeks ago and with his HR in yesterday’s game he became only the 5th player in MLB history to have nine HR in his first 21 games. New York is 5.5 games out of first place in the AL East and 4.5 games out of the Wild Card. The Yankees rank tied for 22nd in runs scored and 17th in team ERA.

Pitching Match Up<br />
</h2>
<p>
Baltimore: Yovani Gallardo (4-5, 5.08 ERA) New York: Luis Cessa (3-0, 4.01 ERA)
</p>
<p>
Yovani Gallardo goes for the Orioles tonight and in his last outing he gave up three earned runs in seven innings in a 5-3 loss to the Houston Astros. Baltimore has lost his last three starts and in his last two he has given up seven earned runs. Gallardo faced the Yankees in New York on July 20th and gave up four earned runs in seven innings in a 5-0 Baltimore loss. Gallardo is 1-4 with an ERA of 4.66 in his last 10 starts. The Orioles are 0-5 in Gallardo’s last 5 starts against a team with a winning record.
</p>
<p>
Luis Cessa gets the start for the Yankees and he had a great last outing not giving up any earned runs in six innings of work in a 5-1 win over the L.A. Angels. He will be making his 2nd start of the season tonight after working out of the bullpen. Cessa has not faced the Orioles this season.

Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees Prediction

The Orioles have lost three straight games that Yovani Gallardo has started although has pitched well enough to have a better fate holding the opposition to three or fewer runs in each game. What he hasn’t done however is pitch well against the Yankees who have scored nine runs over 13 innings in his last two starts against them. Rookie Luis Cessa goes for New York and he’ll be making just his second career start. He looked great in his first one but his work in the bullpen was average and I can see a different outcome today. Both of these teams have been scoring well over the last handful or so of games and while the trend is to the under with five consecutive falling under the line, I believe that double digit runs are a strong possibility tonight.
