The Dodgers and Padres were supposed to be the top two teams in the NL West this season, but instead, at the moment, it's the Diamondbacks and Giants heading into the opener of this three games series in San Francisco. Logan Webb hits the hill for the home team here against Zach Davies for Arizona.

MLB Betting Odds

Friday's baseball betting market opened San Francisco and Webb at around -180 over Arizona and Davies, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. Both figures were holding steady in the early betting action.

Diamondbacks-Giants Betting Preview

Arizona just won a make-up game at Washington Thursday 5-3. Just before that, the Diamondbacks took two of three games at Milwaukee, and just before that, they took two of three at home from Cleveland. So Arizona is 2-0 over its last two series and 5-2 over its last seven games.

At 46-30 overall, the D-Backs lead the NL West by 3.5 games over second-place San Francisco.

The Giants, meanwhile, just took three of four games at home from San Diego, missing out on the sweep by losing Thursday's series finale 10-0. Just before that, San Francisco swept three games from the Dodgers in LA, and just before that, they swept three games in St. Louis.

So the Giants are 3-0 over their last three series and 10-1 over their last 11 games.

At 42-33 overall, San Francisco owns the fourth-best record in the National League.

This series is the second meeting between these divisional rivals this season; six weeks ago, the D-Backs took three of four games from the Giants at Chase Field.

Friday's Pitching Match-Up

<a class="advblue" href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/256128" title="Logan Webb Pitching Game Stats">Webb is a solid 11/15 on quality starts this season and 10 for his last 11. Last Sunday, he held the Dodgers to two runs and eight hits through seven innings of a 7-3 San Francisco victory. And just before that, he held the Cardinals to three runs through seven frames of a 4-3 Giants win.

San Francisco is only 7-8 with Webb this season, but that may be as many as four games worse than they should be, based on his performances.

Over three career appearances against Arizona, two last season and one earlier this season, Webb allowed ten runs - eight earned - and 19 hits through 18 innings. The Giants lost all three of those games.

<a class="advblue" href="https://www.sportsbettingstats.com/mlb/pitcherlog/70842" title="Zach Davies Pitching Game Logs">Davies is just 1/7 on quality starts this year and a bad 0 for his last two. Last Sunday, he gave up eight ER and nine hits through 3 2/3 innings of a 12-3 Diamondbacks loss to the Indians. And just before that, he gave up four ER through only three innings of a 15-3 Arizona loss to Philadelphia.

The D-Backs are 4-3 with Davies this season, but that's probably a game better than they should be, based on what he's done.

Over his last two starts against San Francisco, both last season, Davies held the Giants to two runs and seven hits through 10 innings. Arizona split those two games.

Splits With the Sticks

Arizona is batting .265 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .335 team OBP and a .446 team slugging percentage.

San Francisco is slashing .249/.333/.427 against right-handed pitching.

The Bullpens

The Giants bullpen owns a 3.71 ERA this season, along with a 1.22 WHIP and a 3.02 K/BB ratio.

The D-Backs pen owns a 4.16 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and a 2.55 K/BB ratio.

MLB Betting Trends

Arizona is 23-12 on the road this season and 33-19 against right-handed starters.

San Francisco is 21-18 at home and 30-26 against right-handed starters.

Totals Report

The overs are 36-35 in Diamondbacks games this season.

The unders are 37-36 in Giants games.

The unders are 20-17 at Oracle Park this season.

Diamondbacks at Giants Moneyline Pick 6/23/23

Webb gets our handicapping checkmark in the pitching match-up, and while Arizona owns a short edge with the sticks, San Francisco owns a short edge in the bullpen comparison. However, when we add all that up, it doesn't seem to warrant so high a price. Betting baseball is often about betting value, and we like the value with the Diamondbacks, a team that's 16 games over .500, getting a fat underdog price.
