Tampa Bay and Dallas opened last season with a great game, and we expect another one when the teams open their 2022 seasons Sunday night at Jerry World. The Buccaneers are still led by a now 45-year-old Tom Brady, but they're under a new HC and without Gronk. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are trying to shake off another early exit from the postseason.

Here's our homework for this game, with our free NFL betting pick.

NFL Betting Lines

The Week 1 NFL betting odds opened Tampa as a two-point road favorite over Dallas, with an over/under of right around 52. Early betting action then bumped the Bucs to -2.5 and dipped that total to 50.5.

Buccaneers-Cowboys NFL Betting Preview

Tampa Bay played 13-4 last season, won the NFC South for the first time since 2007 but came up short in the playoffs in its quest for back-to-back Super Bowl titles. The Buccaneers started 6-1 last season, with wins over Dallas, New England, and Philadelphia, then lost two games in a row. Tampa then finished 7-1 against a weak schedule to claim the No. 2 spot in the NFC playoffs. The Bucs then destroyed the Eagles in a wild-card game but lost a wild divisional-round bout to the eventual Super Bowl champion Rams 30-27.

Over the off-season, Tampa Bay lost Coach Arians to a surprise retirement, replacing him with former Jets HC Bowles. The Bucs also lost Brady’s good buddy Gronkowski. And Brady got another year older - he's now 45!

Tampa is lined as a -275 favorite to win the NFC South this season, playing against an over/under win total of 11.5. The Bucs are also the top choice on the NFC championship board at +325 and the second choice on most Super Bowl boards at +750.

Dallas, meanwhile, played 13-4 last season, won the NFC East for the fourth time over the last eight seasons but got upset at home by San Francisco in a wild-card game. The Cowboys opened last season with a two-point loss to Tampa Bay, then won six in a row, beating the Chargers, Eagles, and Patriots along the way. Dallas then struggled through a 1-3 stretch but finished 4-1 to earn the No. 3 spot in the NFC playoffs. But it all came crashing down with that 23-17 playoff loss to the 49ers.

Over the off-season, the Cowboys lost several familiar names, did nothing in free agency, and used four of their top five draft picks on offense.

Dallas is listed as a +130 favorite to win the NFC East this season, playing against an O/U win total of 10.5. The Cowboy are also getting +800 to win the NFC and +1900 to win the Super Bowl.

Bucs-Cowboys Recent History

These teams just met back in Week 1 of last season, a 31-29 Tampa victory. The Bucs led that game 7-0 early, 21-16 at the half, and 28-19 in the third quarter, then fell behind 29-28 with just over a minute to go. But Brady drove the offense 57 yards to a game-winning field goal with two seconds left.

Gronkowski and Anthony Brown combined to catch 210 yards worth of balls that night for Tampa Bay. Neither will be on the field Sunday night.

Also, that game played over a total of 52.5, as the teams combined for almost 900 yards of total offense.

Totals Report

The overs played 9-8 in Bucs games last season, which averaged 51 total points.

The Under was 9-8 in Cowboys games last season, averaging 51 points.

The Under was 9-7 in NFL Week 1 last season.

Bucs vs. Coeboys Week 1 Betting Prediction

Dallas owns the better running game in this match-up, and its quarterback is 16 years younger than Tampa's. And we expect even more improvement from the Cowboys' defense this season. The Bucs, meanwhile, downgraded at head coach, and we just don't like the idea of an old man playing QB. Dallas nearly beat the Bucs last year, and we think they'll do it this time. We're betting the Cowboys here for the win on the money line at a price of +120.
