Odds to Win the Stanley Cup
Despite the fact that two of the three most recent Stanley cup winners were big underdogs and attractive Stanley cup future bets during the season, oddsmakers are sticking by the usual suspects at the top of their lists in 2007-2008.
When Tampa Bay and Carolina won, it was payday time for lucky or clever bettors who grabbed them at long odds. Even the Ducks last year were not predicted as Cup winners, while Detroit and Ottawa earned the shortest odds.
So when the NHL future odds were updated this week at BodogLife.com, Ottawa and Detroit remained atop the stack at 4/1 and 5/1 respectively.
A hot streak by the Rangers pushed New York up to 11/2 odds, good for third choice in Stanley Cup future odds. Defending champions Anaheim and their Southern California neighbors in San Jose are next at 8/1.
The aforementioned Hurricanes are 10/1, tied with surging Colorado and Sidney Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins.
But finding value is what future betting is all about and the improving Canucks and their all-world goalie Roberto Luongo are currently 22/1. They need another proven scorer and need to weather an injury and suspension storm that has taken blueliners Kevin Bieksa and Mattias Ohlund out of commission.
Philly is 20/1 and could use some blueline help and a defensive forward to balance their offensive talent.
