New York Rangers vs. Washington Capitals Odds - Game 3
The New York Rangers will try and regain the edge against the Washington Capitals when the two square-off this Wednesday night at the Verizon Center in Game 3 of this best-of-seven matchup in the Eastern Conference semifinals. This game is slated to get underway at 7:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on the NBC Sports Network.
New York used two goals in the third period to come away with a 3-1 victory in Game 1 as a 140 home favorite, but saw its third-period rally attempt fall short in a 3-2 loss as a 145 home favorite in Monday night's Game 2. With the series tied at a game apiece, the Rangers are well aware about the importance home ice advantage after needing back-to-back victories in the final two games of their first-round series against Ottawa to claim that series in seven games.
The good news for New York has been the high level of play from a few of its stars. Brad Richards leads the team in scoring with four goals and four assists and Ryan Callahan has added three goals and two assists in nine playoff games. The biggest star on the Rangers' roster is still goalie Henrik Lundqvist. He has a postseason goals-against-average of 1.77 as compared to a regular season GAA of 1.97.
Washington was an underdog in its opening series against Boston and a prohibitive series underdog against New York, but this team continues to find ways to win games when it needs to the most. The Capitals have used their star power to post a 4-1 record in their last five playoff games that have been decided by a margin of just one goal. Their star power has also risen to the occasion with Alex Ovechkin leading the charge. He leads the team in scoring with six points including the game winning goal in Monday night's crucial win as a 134 road underdog.
Another key to the Capitals' success has been the unexpected play of goalie Braden Holtby. He was pressed into service after injuries sidelined both Tomas Vokoun and Michal Neuvirth. After starting just six games in the regular season, Holtby has been stellar between the pipes with a GAA of 2.12 and a save percentage of .931 in nine playoff starts.
The Rangers are 6-2 in their last eight road games but just 2-7 in their last nine conference semifinals games. The total has gone ‘over' in five of their last six games as underdogs.
The Capitals are 11-3 in their last 14 games when an opponent fails to score more than two goals in its previous outing. The total has gone ‘over' in seven of their last 10 conference semifinal games.
Head-to-head, New York is 1-4 in its last five games in New York and total has stayed ‘under' in four of those five games.
Game Betting Pick
Expect another one-goal game on Wednesday night but this time the Rangers get the win on the road as Lundqvist holds-off Washington late in the third period.
