The old-time rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs is renewed Saturday night when the historic franchises clash at the Air Canada Centre.
The Canadiens will playing the second game in as many nights after hosting Pittsburgh on Friday. Heading into their Friday night matchup the Habs had only one win in their last five games and a lackluster 4-11 mark in their last 15.
The Leafs last suited up on Thursday when they whipped Minnesota 4-1 as a -160 favorite. That game went Under the posted total (5.5) extending the Leafs' Under streak to five games. Toronto also owns a solid 6-2 record in their last eight games at home.
So far this season Toronto is 2-0 versus Montreal with 2-0 win to open the season at home and a 5-4 win in Montreal. The Leafs are 7-3 in their last 10 versus the Habs and they're 4-1 in their last five against the Montreal at the ACC.
Pick: Toronto 4 – Montreal 2
Two of the leagues hottest teams collide in California Saturday night when the Anaheim Ducks play host to the Ottawa Senators.
The Sens began their West coast swing on Thursday night by thumping the Sharks 4-1 as a +160 underdog. With the win Ottawa is now 6-1 in their last seven games and they've gone Under the total in their last five games. Goalie Craig Anderson has been stellar for the Senators during their recent run, allowing two goals or less in his last six starts.
The Ducks have finally awaken from their first half coma and have won three straight and six of their last seven games. They last played on Wednesday when they crushed the Coyotes 6-2 as a -125 favorite. Amazingly Anaheim netted six goals in that win despite their big guns, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan registering only one point between them.
The Ducks own an 8-2 record in their last 10 games against Ottawa. That includes a 4-1 record in their last five at home. Bettors may want to consider though that Ottawa has won five straight on the road and they've posted an 8-1 Under mark in their last nine away from home.
Pick: Under
Sunday's NHL slate gets started with another matchup between the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Capitals faced Carolina in Friday night and headed into that matchup with a 4-1 record in their last five games. One of those wins was a 1-0 win over Pittsburgh back on January 11. The Capitals have had some trouble picking up road wins lately with a disappointing 2-5 record in their last seven on the road.
The Penguins have been rolling since their loss to Washington, reeling off four straight wins. They carried that win streak into a Friday night matchup with Montreal. During the Pens four-game winning streak Evgeni Malkin has been on fire with seven goals and nine points.
Including their win earlier this month the Capitals are 8-2 in their last 10 versus Pittsburgh. However, despite all the firepower on both sides those haven't been high scoring games. The last seven matchups between the Pens and Caps have all gone Under the posted total.
Pick: Under
Also on Sunday, the Philadelphia Flyers will be out for some revenge when they host the Boston Bruins.
The last time the Flyers and Bruins met up on December 17 it wasn't pretty, as the Bruins steamrolled the Flyers in a 6-0 win. Six different Bruins found the back of the net in the rout and Tim Thomas made 31 saves to record the shutout.
With that win the Bruins improved to 8-2 in their last 10 games against the Flyers. That includes five straight road wins at Philadelphia and a 14-6 record in their last 20 roads games against the Flyers.
Pick: Boston 4 – Philadelphia 2
