2014 Eastern Conference Betting Odds
The Penguins have the lowest odds to win the Eastern Conference and that is no shock since they currently have the most points in the East by a 7-point margin. Let's take a look at the contenders with their future lines listed from Bovada.
All stats and standings are as of January 20th.
Sidney Crosby leads the Penguins, who have the lowest odds to win the Eastern Conference and are currently in the lead in the Metropolitan Division. Sid the Kid leads the NHL in points and 3rd in goals. They have been stellar at home, but are only 14-9-2 on the road.
The Bruins are led by their 2nd ranked defense and they are currently in the lead in the Atlantic Division. The offense is a good one ranking 7th in scoring and one main concern for Boston is their road play where they are barely above .500. They may need to get home ice in the playoffs to win the Eastern Conference.
The Lightning have a balanced team that is in 2nd place in the Atlantic Conference. Their defense ranks 10th in goals allowed per game and their offense ranks 8th in scoring. G Ben Bishop is having a great season and not only ranks 4th in the league in goals, but 4th in goals against average as well.
The Rangers are in 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division, but they are still 13 points behind the Penguins. New York has been surging as of late, but they have, surprisingly struggled at home this season. Their defense is decent, but their offense has struggled and only ranks 22nd in the league in goals per game.
Montreal is in 3rd place in the Atlantic Division and while their offense only ranks 19th in the league their defense is the strength of the team ranking 7th in the league. G Carey Price got off to a solid start this season, but has struggled lately allowing 11 goals in his last 3 games. For Montreal to win the East they will need to start playing better on the offensive end of the ice.
The Red Wings are not in the Western Conference anymore and that is good for them this season, as the East is much weaker. Detroit is still in the playoff picture, but only rank 14th on defense and 21st in scoring.
There is a logjam of teams with odds of +1800 in the Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Philadelphia Flyers, and Washington Capitals +1800. All of these teams have major issues, which is why they do not have good odds. The Senators only rank 27th in the league on defense, the Blue Jackets do not ranking in the top 10 in the league on offense or defense, and the Flyers are mediocre on both sides of the ice. Washington does have stud Alex Ovechkin, who leads the league in goals, but the Capsí defense only ranks 23rd in the league.
