The New York Giants and New England Patriots are in Indianapolis this week to begin final preparations for Sunday’s Super Bowl at Lucas Oil Stadium. The kick-off for this instant classic in the making is set for 6:29 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.

New York took a longer and harder route to get this game with two-must wins over the Jets and Cowboys to close-out the regular season. It then posted two dominating victories over Atlanta and Green Bay before escaping with a 20-17 overtime win over San Francisco as a two-point road underdog in the NFC Championship Game. The Giants come in with a 12-7 record straight-up and an 11-7-1 record against the spread. The total went 9-9-1 in their 19 games this year.

If Eli Manning can play one more game like he has the past three, New York has an excellent chance of posting its second-straight Super Bowl win over the Patriots after beating them 17-14 in a shocker in Super Bowl XLII. In three postseason games, he has completed 76-of- 123 attempts for 923 yards and eight touchdowns, while throwing just one interception.

New England’s route to this year’s Super Bowl was made much easier with an AFC-best 13-3 SU (9-7 ATS) record in the regular season and first-round bye. After rolling over Denver 45-10 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs as 14-point home favorites, the Patriots dodged a couple of bullets to pull-out a 23-20 victory over Baltimore as seven-point home favorites in the AFC Championship. The total has gone ‘over’ in 12 of their 18 games this year.

Tom Brady threw for six touchdowns in New England’s win over the Broncos, but it was the defense that stepped to the plate against the Ravens. It did bend by allowing Joe Flacco to pass for 306 yards, but it did not break down the stretch. Brady will need to step-it up against the Giants after a less-than-stellar performance against Baltimore in which he completed just 61.1 percent of his passes for 239 yards and zero touchdowns, while tossing two interceptions along the way.

The Giants are 8-0 ATS in their last eight playoff games as underdogs and 8-1 ATS in their last nine playoff games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in eight of their last 10 postseason games.

The Patriots are 1-6 ATS in their last seven playoff games as favorites and 1-7 ATS in their last eight playoff games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in 24 of their last 32 games as favorites.

These two met earlier in the season with New York coming away with a dramatic 24-20 victory as a nine-point road underdog.

Point Spread Pick

The one take-a-way from that earlier contest is this time around should be just as close. The spread could still move a half point either way, but if you can still grab the 3 points with the NY Giants then that's the prudent way to go.
