Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers Betting Pick
First place in the NFC West will be on the line this Thursday night when the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco square-off at Candlestick Park. All the action is set to get underway at 8:20 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on the NFL Network.
Seattle is off to a 4-2 start both straight-up and against the spread with impressive victories over Dallas, Green Bay, and New England although many people would think the win over the Packers was a gift. None the less, the Seahawks find themselves in the thick of a surprisingly tight NFC West Division race in which all four teams are .500 or better. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their first six games.
The big question mark for this team is can it win on the road where it is just 1-2 SU and ATS? Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson has brought back the excitement on offense and Seattle is ranked seventh in the league in running the ball behind Marshawn Lynch, but the Seahawks always seem to thrive on the energy from the home-town crowd which they obviously cannot duplicate on the road.
San Francisco is coming off an uninspired 26-3 loss to the New York Giants this past Sunday as a seven-point home favorite. This followed back-to-back victories over the NY Jets and Buffalo in which it outscored the two by a combined score of 79-3. The 49ers are also 4-2 SU and ATS with the total staying UNDER in three of their last four games. While San Francisco remains one of the most balanced teams in the NFC with an offense that is ranked first in the league in rushing the ball to help complement a defense that is ranked first in yards allowed. The problem with this team so far is its inability to play from behind. Alex Smith has been extremely effective when asked to manage a lead, but the eight-year veteran is not much of a threat to beat you strictly with his arm. He has completed 67.7 percent of his throws for 1,287 yards and eight touchdowns, but most of this production has come with his team sitting comfortably in the lead.
Game Betting Trends
The Seahawks are 0-4 ATS in their last four games against the division and 6-15 ATS in their last 21 road games against a team with a winning record at home. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last eight games on the road.
The 49ers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against the NFC West and 21-8-3 ATS in their last 32 games at home. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last eight home games.
Head-to-head, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings and the total has gone OVER in two of the last three games. Seattle is just 2-5 ATS in its last seven trips to San Francisco.
San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh has done a good job at getting his team ready to play following a bad loss and this Thursday night should be no exception. Look for the 49ers to grab an early lead and apply the pressure on defense to cover by more than eight points.
