Squarelli's Weekly NFL PIcks

Joe plans to end the football season with a bang by making a double winning pick in the Super Bowl on both the game and the total.

It all comes down to this, the Giants and the Patriots for the title. The Patriots are out to stake their claim to immortality with a 19-0 season, and even though I don't like them, I expect them to achieve their goal. That being said, I won't be betting on the Pats against the spread on Sunday.

The Patriots being favored by 12 points just seem outlandish to me. When New England and New York collided in Week 17, the Pats barely escaped with a 38-35 win. The Patriots are still being saddled with huge double-digit spread even thought they've gone 0-5 ATS in their last five games, and 2-8 ATS in their last 10. When you look at those ATS numbers, the chances of the Pats covering 12 points just don't look good.

My pick for the final score is New England 30 - New York 27. Brady will have his struggles against the Giants' pass rush, but he'll still throw at least two touchdowns to his group of talented receivers. Laurence Maroney should also have a solid game with another 100-plus yards and a trip to the end zone.

Eli Manning and the Giants' offense will be able to keep it close into the fourth quarter, but just like every other time this season, New England will find a way to seal the deal late.

Since the latest over/under total has been listed at 54 and I've predicted a 30-27 final score, I don't have to tell you I'm going with the OVER. The last two Super Bowls have been Under plays, but with both the Pats and Giants able to score with proficiency, that streak should end this year.

Take the Giants +12 and go with the Over.
