Interstate rivals highlight preseason Week 3
Tampa Bay at Miami
The preseason battle for bragging rights in the Sunshine State will take place when Miami hosts the Buccaneers at Dolphin Stadium on Saturday night. Both teams have high hopes going into the regular season. The Dolphins are 2-0 so far in this preseason, winning both games by a single point which bodes well for the offensively-challenged Miami club. Trent Green, who was recently named the starting quarterback for the upcoming season, was solid in the Dolphins' 11-10 win over his old team by going 4-for-7 for 41 yards in a cameo performance against Kansas City. Green should get more time ahead of Cleo Lemon and John Beck in this week's game. The Bucs have split their two preseason games so far, coming off of a 31-19 loss at Jacksonville last week. Probable starter Jeff Garcia was a perfect 6-for-6 for 43 yards and a touchdown, and Jon Gruden should be excited about having a veteran like Garcia calling the shots under center. However, the defense must be shored up as the Bucs will flounder if they give up 377 total yards as they did to the Jaguars.
New York Jets at New York Giants
The Big Apple will be rocking on Saturday night when the Giants host the Jets on the field they both share during the season. Both teams are 1-1 so far in this preseason, but the Jets are coming off of a 37-20 defeat at the hands of Minnesota at home. The Jets committed four turnovers, including two picks by Chad Pennington that were returned for touchdowns. The Giants fought for a tough 13-12 win at Baltimore, but Will Demps is out after dislocating his elbow and Sam Madison pulled a hamstring. This could have an adverse effect on a Giants' defense that will need to be at full strength in a difficult division.
