NFL Playoff Picture

The playoff picture is set in the NFC - we know the six teams, we just need to figure out the order on Sunday.

But after 16 weeks in the AFC, all they succeeded in doing was eliminating five teams.

That's right, 11 teams retain a shot at the playoffs in the AFC, including the 7-8 Dolphins and 7-8 Jaguars who need lots of help to earn a final Wild Card. Depending on how Sunday shakes out, there could be two 8-8 teams in the playoffs.

Up top, the Colts have the top seed and travel with a half team to Buffalo this week. Of note, the Colts are just 1-6 ATS in their past seven season-ending games, usually because they are resting players. That game remained off the board Wednesday.

The Chargers are No. 2 and host the Redskins, whose run of five straight covers was wrecked last week by Dallas. New England is the likely No. 3 seed, despite travelling to Houston where the 8-7 Texans have a playoff shot.

Cincinnati is fourth and visits the Jets, who will be hungry to earn a playoff spot. The Jets need to win to lock down the No. 5 slot - if they lose, they are out (if you handicap based on must-win games, this is a simple case). This game opened at -7 and was quickly bet up to -10. Do the Bengals play spoiler, pissed off by the snub of zero Pro Bowlers on a 10-5 team?

Baltimore travels to Oakland as 10.5-point chalk and is in if they win. The Ravens are also out with a loss and Oakland has turned a few huge upsets this season so far, especially as double-digit dogs.

Denver, Houston and Pittsburgh all need the Ravens and Jets to lose and for help to come. All could land as high as No. 5.

The defending champion Steelers are out even if they win at Miami, presuming the Ravens and Jets win. The Pitt-Miami game remained off the board as of Wednesday. It will be an interesting opening line as both need to win to get in.

The Dolphins are currently the No. 10 seed and need to win and have all the other teams lose. Jacksonville is No. 11 and could get all the way to No. 5 if they win at Cleveland and five teams ahead of them all lose. They would win an 8-8 tie with the Dolphins.

NFC playoff picture

It's clearer but still confusing in the NFC where the six playoff teams are set: Saints, Eagles, Vikings, Packers, Cowboys and Cardinals. The Saints earned the top seed when the Vikings lost at Chicago, but four teams have a shot at the No. 2 seed and Wild Card bye week.

The Eagles (11-4) hold it now and lock it up with a win at Dallas and a Minnesota loss. They are 3-point dogs at Dallas, whose Super Bowl future odds dropped from 20/1 to 12/1 at bodog last week when they shut out Washington.

If the Eagles lose and Green Bay wins at Arizona, they tumble all the way to No. 6. So Philly is a team with tremendous incentive to win, but they also lost their starting center to a knee injury in Week 16.

Dallas could be No. 2 if they beat Philly and both the Vikes and Cards lose. The Cowboys could land anywhere between No. 2 and No. 6 - expect them to pound the middle of the Eagle offensive line to disrupt things for Donovan McNabb.

The Cardinals could also be the No. 2 seed if they beat the Packers at home (they are -3.5) and the Eagles and Vikings both lose.

Minnesota would be No. 2 with a Philly loss and their own win over at home to the fading Giants. They are favored by nine but have not looked good defensively.

The Packers are locked into No. 5 or No. 6 depending on how Sunday plays out so they will start with a road Wild Card game.
