Philadelphia (6-3, 5-4 ATS) wowed the world with a brilliant 59-28 demolition at Washington last Monday. The victory improved the Eagles to 4-1 in their last five games and snapped a two-game skid against the spread.
More importantly, it showcased the dominance of Michael Vick. Quite frankly, he delivered one of the greatest performances in NFL history: 20-28, 333 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, 80 rush yards and two rushing scores. Yes, you read those numbers correctly. With Vick, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy on board, this is the most explosive offense in the NFL. The Eagles are averaging 37 points per outing in games started and finished by Vick.
Defensively, the Eagles are solid if unspectacular. They rank 16th against the pass and 12th against the run. Philly does a great job getting after the quarterback, though, as it's tied for sixth in the league with 26. The secondary can be burnt for big plays, though, as the Eagles have given up 31 plays of 20 yards or more (ninth in the NFL).
New York (6-3, 5-4 ATS) had been one of the hottest teams in the NFL before last week's 33-20 letdown against Dallas. That ended a five-game winning streak and dropped the Giants to 2-2 in their past four games against the spread.
Before that meltdown, the defense had been outstanding. The Giants lead the NFL in fewest yards allowed, and they're in the Top-5 against both the run and pass. The "D" showed some cracks against both last week, though. Jon Kitna-yes, the Jon Kitna-threw for 327 yards and three scores against the G-men. More pressure certainly would have helped, as New York managed just a single sack.
The offense is in the same boat-second in the NFL with a Top-5 rushing attack and the No. 6 passing attack. Eli Manning is enjoying a monster campaign; he's tossed 14 touchdowns and averaged 288 passing yards over his last five starts. Ahmad Bradshaw, meanwhile, is tied for third in the NFL with 838 rushing yards. He needs to squeeze the football, though, as he already has five fumbles (four lost).
Philadelphia has won four straight games against the Giants; the Eagles covered every time. The past two games have gone over the total. BetED.com has set the total for Sunday's game at 48 points.
