The streaky New York Giants and the well-rested Green Bay Packers square-off this Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field in the Divisional Round of this season' s NFL playoffs with a trip to the NFC Championship game hanging in the balance. Kick-off is slated for 4:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
New York was on the verge of collapse after dropping five of six games down the stretch, but dominant victories over the Jets and Cowboys to close-out the regular season and a smothering 24-2 win over Atlanta as a three-point home favorite in last Sunday' s Wildcard Round, have this team peaking at just the right time. The Giants are now 10-7 straight-up overall and 9-7-1 against the spread. They went 5-3 both SU and ATS on the road this season and the total went an even 8-8-1 including Sunday' s game against the Falcons.
Suddenly, the Giants' old formula for success has reappeared after taking most of the second half of the regular season off. Against Atlanta, Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw combined 155 yards on the ground and New York' s defense harassed Matt Ryan all game long and made two crucial stops on fourth and short yardage that changed the entire complexion of the game.
Green Bay comes into this game fresh off a bye as the No.1 seed in the conference. It went 15-1 SU on the year and 11-5 against the spread. The Packers were a perfect 8-0 SU at home and a profitable 7-1 ATS. The total went ‘over' in 11 of their 16 games.
The Packers' formula for success all year long has been Aaron Rodgers and an offense that finished the regular season ranked third in total yards and first in scoring with an average of 35 points a game. At times it made things look ridiculously easy with flawless execution in the passing game, but Green Bay struggled to run the ball and had major problems stopping opponents from gouging it for huge chunks of yardage on defense. It finished the season ranked dead-last in the NFL in total yards allowed and gave-up an average of 22.4 points a game.
New York is 6-0 ATS in its last six playoff games on the road and 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has stayed ‘under' in seven of its last eight playoff games.
Green Bay is 4-0 ATS in its last four playoff games overall and 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven Divisional Round games. The total has gone ‘over' in four of its last five playoff home games.
Head-to-head in this series, the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the road team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven. The total has gone ‘over' in the last four games including a 38-34 Packers victory in Week 13 as seven-point road favorites.
Point Spread Pick
Expect another hard-fought battle that is not decided until late in the fourth quarter. Green Bay prevails with the win, but take the Giants to cover with the nine points.
