NFL Playoff Betting Recap

Wild Card Weekend had been favoring UNDER bettors the past five seasons (just 6 OVERs in 20 games).

This season, that trend flipped on its head, costing UNDER bettors dearly as all four Wild Card games sailed OVER the total.

While the first three games barely eclipsed the number, the late Sunday game between the Cards and Packers saw 96 points go on the board, exactly doubling the total of 48!

Favorite bettors were also getting smacked around as three of four underdogs covered the spread and won outright. Only Dallas covered as chalk.

The situation was similar at WagerTracker.com, a sports betting contest where thousands of players log their picks each week. In all four games, the consensus was wrong with nearly two-thirds of bettors siding with the Eagles and almost 70 % of bettors backing Green Bay.

The other games were much closer, but the consensus was wrong. The WagerTracker.com community were better on totals, heavily favoring the OVER Jets-Bengals and Packers-Cardinals games, but getting it wrong on the other games by favoring the UNDER.

This week's early NFL betting action at Sportsbook.com saw a lot of early money on the Jets +7.5 at San Diego (66% on the point spread and nearly all the wagers on the moneyline) and the Carrdinals (62% on the +7 spread at New Orleans and 95% of the early moneyline bets).

In all four games, the early moneyline action saw big advantages for the underdogs.

Early betting on the Dallas-Minnesota NFC game was split evenly on the -2.5 spread, while the Colts, who gave up a chance at a perfect season in exchange for a deep playoff run, are getting seven of every 10 early bets at -7.
