National Football Conference Odds

The Cowboys (3/1) still have the best odds to win the NFC. They should, as their offense is the best in the NFC, but even though their D is solid they gave up 37 points to the Eagles in week 2. It will be a battle all year to just win the NFC East, as that is the best division in football with the Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, and Redskins. Tony Romo is playing solid and the Cowboys will score a ton of points and if their D plays well they will be THE team to beat.

Off-season issues? No problem. Injuries? No problem. The Giants have looked great in the early part of the season even though Michael Strahan retired, they traded away TE Jeremy Shockey, and the lost LB Osi Umenyiora for the season with an injury. The G-men rank 1st on defense and 3rd on offense in the NFC. They play in the NFC East, so they will be in a battle all year long, but they are playing great and they ARE the defending NFC champions.

Brett who? Aaron Rodgers has played great this year and is the 5th rated QB in the league. The offense of the Packers (6/1) is ranked 4th in the NFC, but they do have concerns on defense, which is ranked 11th. Their running game has to improve and it should, as RB Ryan Grant is only averaging 56 yards per game rushing, but he has been nursing an injured hamstring. Once he returns to full strength the Packers offense will be even better. If they can play some D they will be a team to reckon with in the NFC.

The Eagles (8/1) are a different team when Donovan McNabb is on the field. Can he stay healthy for the entire year? He is playing like he did a few years back, when he was one of the best QB's in the league. Their D, which is ranked 5th in the NFC, is sort of Jekyll and Hyde, as they are the best in the NFC in stopping the run (52 ypg), but their secondary has had problems, giving up 221 ypg. Their secondary was exposed in week 2, as the Cowboys torched them en route to 41 points.

The Panthers (11/1) are 2-0 and are playing great on both sides of the ball. Their D is ranked 6th in the NFC and their secondary is especially strong. QB Jake Delhomme seems to have recovered from surgery and he looks like the QB that guided the Panthers to the Super Bowl a few years ago.

The Saints looked great in their opening game, but in week 2 they gave up 2 TD's in the 4th quarter to the Redskins, which cost them a victory. Drew Brees and their passing offense is clicking, but they need to run the ball better, as they are only averaging 78 yards rushing per game as opposed to 266 yards passing. Their D also needs to improve, as they rank 14th in the NFC and are weak against the both the run and the pass.
