The NFC’s sixth-seed Detroit Lions will try and shock the world this Saturday night when they tangle with the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome as prohibitive underdogs in this Wildcard Round matchup. The kick-off is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.

The last time Detroit was in the playoffs the world was in a different century, so it is hoping to make the experience last longer than just one game. The Lions secured the sixth and final seed in the NFC with a 10-6 straight-up record (7-7-2 against the spread) and three victories in their final four games.

Last Sunday they lost a wild one to Green Bay in a 45-41 shootout as 6.5-point road favorites due to fact that the Packers decided to rest a number of their starters. The total went way ‘over’ the 41.5-point line and it went ‘over’ in 10 of their 16 games this year.

Detroit will need a similar offensive outburst this Saturday night to have any chance to keep up with Saints on a fast track at the Superdome. It has a chance considering it finished the season ranked fifth in the NFL in total yards per game and fourth in scoring with an average of 29.6 points a game.

New Orleans finished tied for the second-best record in the NFC at 13-3 SU, but lost a tie-breaker with San Francisco for the No.2 seed and first-round bye. The Saints bring an eight-game winning streak both SU and ATS into this contest and are 12-4 ATS overall. The total has gone 9-7 in their 16 games.

Drew Brees added to his single-season passing record for total yards by throwing for 389 yards in New Orleans’ 45-17 rout of Carolina this past Sunday as seven-point home favorites. He ended-up passing for 5,476 yards and 46 touchdowns on the year while completing 71.2 percent of his throws. The Saints’ offense finished the regular season ranked first in total yards per game and second in scoring with an average of 34.2 points a game.

The Lions are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four games on the road and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in 19 of their last 20 games overall.

The Saints are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 home games and 7-0 ATS in their last seven games against the NFC. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their last eight playoff games.

Head-to-head, New Orleans has won the last three meeting both SU and ATS including a 31-17 romp in Week 13 as a nine-point home favorite with the total staying ‘under’ the 55-point line.

Point Spread Pick

Expect pretty much the same result this time around as well as the Saints march on the Divisional Round of the playoffs with another huge win at home.
