The Denver Broncos will try and keep their improbable run through the NFL playoffs alive when they square-off against the No.1 seed New England Patriots this Saturday night at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough in the Divisional Round of this season's NFL playoffs. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
The last time these two teams met, Denver actually carved-out an early 16-7 lead, but imploded with a series of mistakes and turnovers that resulted in a 41-23 loss as a seven-point home underdog. It was the first of three losses to close-out the Broncos' regular season, but they found new life in the playoffs with an improbable 29-23 overtime victory over Pittsburgh as 7.5-point home underdogs in Sunday's Wildcard Round.
Denver comes into this game 9-8 straight-up on the year and 8-9 against the spread. It went 5-3 SU on the road this season and 6-2 ATS. The total went ‘over' the 34-point line against the Steelers and has now gone ‘over' in 10 of its 17 games this year.
New England finished the regular season with the best record in the AFC at 13-3 SU and is 9-7 ATS. It was 7-1 at home SU, but just 4-4 ATS. The total went ‘over' in 11 of its 16 games this year overall and in five of the eight games at home.
The Patriots are confident they will once again be able to put points on the scoreboard against Denver behind Tom Brady and an offense that averaged 32.1 points a game, which was the third-highest total in the NFL. They have to be concerned a bit with a defense that was ranked 31st against the pass, especially after watching Tebow effortlessly move the ball for big chunks of yardage against the Steelers' secondary.
The Broncos are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as underdogs and 5-1 ATS in their last six games on the road. The total has gone ‘over' in 26 of their last 38 games overall.
The Patriots are 0-5 ATS in their last five playoff games as favorites and 0-6 ATS in their last six playoff games overall. The total has gone ‘over' in 20 of their last 29 home games.
Head-to-head in this series, Denver is 5-1 ATS in its last six trips to Foxborough and the total has stayed ‘under' in four of the six meetings there.
Point Spread Pick
Unfortunately for all the Tebow fans out there, the clock is about to strike midnight for the Broncos magical run. New England bucks the recent trends in this series by tacking on an insurance touchdown late in the game to cover the 13.5-point spread.
