The Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers renew one of the greatest rivalries in the NFL on Christmas night at Lambeau Field in a crucial NFC North showdown for both teams. The kick-off for this Sunday’s game is set for 8:20 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on NBC.

Chicago’s season is suddenly on the brink after four straight losses have dropped it to 7-7 both straight-up and against the spread on the year and currently on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs. The total has gone ‘over’ in eight of its 14 games this season.

This whole mess started when Jay Cutler went down with a hand injury and the Bears decided to turn the reins over to four-year veteran Caleb Hanie. The results have been nothing short of a complete disaster as he has completed just half of his passes while throwing six interceptions against just one touchdown. The fact that Chicago also lost its running game after Matt Forte went down with a knee injury, has only added to the mounting pressure on Hanie. It appears that the team will sink or swim with its decision over the next two games even though it is barely treading water right now.

The champagne bottles were popping in Miami by the members of 1972 Dolphins with Green Bay’s shocking 19-14 loss to Kansas City on Sunday as an 11-point road favorite as it marked an end to its quest for a perfect season. This could actually be just what the doctor ordered for the banged-up 13-1 Packers as the pressure of trying to win the rest of their games is finally gone. They are now 9-5 ATS and the total has gone ‘over’ in nine of their 14 games this year.

It remains to be seen what head coach Mike McCarthy will do as far as playing time for his starters in this game, but you can expect the Packers to put forth a solid effort to try and beat the Bears to get the sour taste of last week’s loss out of their mouths.

Chicago is 1-3 ATS in its last four games and 3-3 ATS in its last six road games. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of its last seven games.

Green Bay is 2-3 ATS in its last five games, but 5-1 ATS in its first six home games this season. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of its last eight games overall and in five of its six games at home.

Head-to-head in this series, the Packers beat the Bears 27-17 on Sept.25 as four-point road favorites and have now won four of the last five meetings SU. They are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and the total stayed ‘under’ in all seven games.

Point Spread Pick

A 13-point spread in a divisional rivalry such as this is already a bit of a gift, so stick with Chicago to get its act together enough to keep this game interesting until the final gun.
