The favorites finished off the regular season in style in Week 17 and paid off bettors who stuck with them through some lean weeks.
The favorites actually posted back-to-back solid weeks SU in Week 16 and 17. In Week 16 the favorites posted a 10-6 record SU. In Week 17 the favorites delivered their best week of the season with a near-perfect 14-2 record SU. The two favored teams that failed to win in Week 17 were Arizona and Denver.
The Cardinals were a 3-point favorite against Green Bay, but with Matt Leinart at QB most of the game they were crushed 33-7. The Broncos needed a win over Kansas City to keep their slim playoff chances alive, but they were slammed 44-24 as 9.5-point chalk.
In Week 16 a winning record SU for the favorites did not translate into a winning record ATS, as they were a lame 6-8-2 ATS. That changed in Week 17 with a money-winning 10-5-1 ATS mark. The three teams joining Arizona and Denver that failed to cover as favorites were Houston, Baltimore, and Tennessee.
The Texans missed covering by a single point in their 34-27 win over New England as a 7.5-point favorite. The Ravens got past Oakland 21-13 and failed to cover the 10-point spread, while the Titans defeated Seattle 17-13 as a 6-point favorite.
The lone Push on the Week 17 schedule was San Diego. The Chargers were a 3-point favorite against Washington and got past the Redskins 23-20.
Totals bettors saw a big change in Week 17 with a ton of points being scored all around the league. In Week 16 Unders had the edge with a 6-8-2 over-under record. With scoring not being a problem in Week 17 the Over had the advantage at 10-6 over-under. Despite the late surge of Over, the Under was still the season winner with an overall record of 120-130-5.
