The USC Trojans head into Folsom Field this Friday night for a PAC-12 South Division clash with the Colorado Buffaloes, who are still looking for their first conference victory this season. Game time is set for 9 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
USC came painfully close to knocking-off the fourth-ranked team in the country this past Saturday night, but fell to Stanford 56-48 in three overtimes as a 7.5-point home underdog. The total line of 62 was eclipsed at the end of regulation with the scored tied at 34. The Trojans are now 6-2 straight-up (4-4 against the spread) on the year overall and 3-2 SU in the conference.
Quarterback Matt Barkley has completed 67.3 percent of his throws for 2,290 yards and 22 touchdowns, while only getting picked-off five times. As a whole, USC is ranked 24th in the nation in passing with an average of 286.5 yards a game. Robert Woods is the team’s leading receiver with 81 catches for 991 yards and nine touchdowns.
Colorado knocked-off in-state rival Colorado State 28-14 as a seven-point home favorite the third week of the season, but has been on the short side of the scoreboard in its other eight games. Last Saturday, the Buffaloes were blown-out 48-14 by Arizona State as 32-point road underdogs. They are now 1-8 SU and 2-7 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last six games.
The only bright spot on this team this season has been a pass offense that has done a decent job at moving the ball with an average of 245 yards a game. The running game has been almost non-existent with an average of 90 yards a game and the offense, as a whole, is ranked 111th in the country in scoring with just 18.8 points a game. Colorado has been held to a total of 50 points combined in its last four games.
The Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as road favorites and 7-2 ATS in their last nine road games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of their last six games on the road.
The Buffaloes are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games as an underdog at home and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 home games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of their last seven games at home.
These two teams have not played one another for close to 10 years as this is Colorado’s first season as a member of the PAC-12.
While USC will be looking to take the frustration of last week’s disappointing loss out on someone, the Buffaloes find a way to hang tough enough at home to cover with the 22 points.
