The Oklahoma State Cowboys will try and move to a perfect 11-0 at the expense of the Iowa State Cyclones this Friday night when the two teams clash in this Big 12 matchup at Jack Trice Stadium. The kick-off is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Oklahoma State left little doubt it has its sights set on a BCS title with a 66-6 rout of Texas Tech this past Saturday as a 19-point road favorite. It is now 10-0 straight-up on the year and 8-2 against the spread. It has gone 7-0 SU in conference play and the total has gone ‘over’ in six of its 10 games this year.
The Cowboys have ridden the second-highest scoring offense in the nation to a second-place ranking in the BCS. Behind quarterback Brandon Weeden’s 3,635 yards passing and 31 touchdown throws, the offense is averaging 394.2 yards a game through the air and 51.7 points a game on the scoreboard. The only real knock on this team has been on the defensive side of the ball, but its average margin of victory has been well over 25 points.
Iowa State snapped a four-game losing streak with back-to-back conference victories over Texas Tech and Kansas. It is now 5-4 SU overall (4-5 ATS) and 2-4 SU in the Big 12. Three weeks ago the Cyclones hammered the Red Raiders 41-7 as 15-point road underdogs and two weeks ago they snuck past Kansas 13-10 as 14.5-point home favorites. The total stayed ‘under’ in both of those games and is now 4-5 on the year.
If the Cyclones are to have any chance of pulling off the upset of the year in this game, they will need a monster effort from a running game that is averaging 183 yards a game. They have six players with at least 100 yards rushing this season led by James White’s 618 yards on 130 carries. He also leads the team in touchdowns with seven.
Oklahoma State is a perfect 5-0 ATS in five road games this season and the total has stayed ‘under’ in 16 of its last 23 games on the road.
Iowa State is 2-4 ATS in its last six games at home and the total has stayed ‘under’ in four of them. It is 4-7 ATS in its last 11 games overall.
This series is actually tied at 3-3 both SU and ATS in the last six meetings with the total going ‘over’ in two of the last three meetings. The last time they met was in 2009 with the Cowboys cruising to a 34-8 victory as seven-point road favorites.
This time around stick with the Cyclones to cover with the 24.5 points as Oklahoma State gets caught looking ahead to its season finale against Oklahoma.
