The Legends Division title could be on the line this Saturday afternoon when the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Michigan Wolverines clash at Michigan Stadium in this huge Big Ten showdown. The game is slated to get underway at 12 p.m. (ET) and its will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Nebraska is coming off an emotional 17-14 victory over a beleaguered Penn State this past Saturday in a game that ended as a ‘push’. The win also resurrected its chances of winning the Legends Division with a conference record of 4-2 straight-up and win in-hand over the first-place Michigan State Spartans. The Cornhuskers are now 8-2 SU overall, but just 3-6-1 against the spread. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their 10 games this season.
Look for Nebraska to try and grind things out on the ground in this game behind an offense that is averaging 232.7 rushing yards a game. It ran for 188 yards against a very good Nittany Lions’ defense with Rex Burkhead leading the way with 121 yards. He is the Cornhuskers leading rusher this season with 1,072 yards on 212 carries. He also leads the team in touchdowns with 14.
Michigan remains in the Legends Division title race after hammering Illinois 31-14 this past Saturday as a one-point road underdog. The win pushed the Wolverines to 8-2 SU (7-3 ATS) overall and 4-2 SU in conference play. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their 10 games.
If the Wolverines hope to keep their title chances alive it will need one more strong effort from quarterback Denard Robinson, who has thrown for 1,611 yards and 13 touchdowns, while adding a team-high 864 yards on the ground and 12 TD’s. Michigan will also need another strong performance from a defense that is ranked fifth in the nation in points allowed; giving-up an average of just 15.5 points a game.
The Cornhuskers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as an underdog and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games on the road. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of their last six road games.
The Wolverines are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as home favorites and the total has stayed ‘under’ in four of those games.
These two last met in 2005 in a bowl game with Nebraska pulling out a 32-28 victory as a 10-point underdog.
This time around it will be on the road against a Michigan team that is a perfect 6-0 SU at home and 5-1 ATS. Stick with the Wolverines’ defense to once again come up big in a hard-fought, low scoring battle.
