The LSU Tigers look to continue their march to the top of the polls when they take on West Virginia upcoming Saturday night at Mountaineer Field in a huge SEC-Big East showdown featuring two nationally ranked teams. Kick-off is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

LSU has already staked it claim as one of the top teams in the country with two victories over ranked opponents. It opened the season with a 40-27 win over then-No.3 Oregon as a three-point underdog in a game that went ‘over’ the 54-point total. This past Thursday night, the Tigers knocked-off No. 25 Mississippi State 19-6 as a 3.5-point road favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ the 48-point line this time around.

Jarrett Lee has been very efficient at leading LSU’ offense with 444 yards passing and three touchdowns while completing 67.8 percent of his throws. Spencer Ware and Michael Ford have combined for the exact same amount of yards on the ground and have scored seven TD’s. It has been the Tigers’ defense that has been the real story with this team as it has given up an average of just 12 points a game.

This is West Virginia’s chance to put itself into the top 10 after rising to 16th on three straight wins. It opened the season with a fairly routine 34-13 victory over Marshall as a 21.5-point home favorite. This game stayed ‘under’ the 52.5-point line. As a one-point road favorite, the Mountaineers outlasted a better than expected Maryland team 37-31 last Saturday. The total went well ‘over’ the 57.5-point line in this one.

Saturday night’s game will be the first real test for West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, who has thrown the ball all over the field so far with 82 completions on 118 attempts for 1,008 yards and seven TD’s. The Mountaineers have three players with over 200 yards receiving led by Tavon Austin’s 20 catches for 236 yards. The running game has not been nearly as productive with an average of just 78.7 yards per game. LSU is 2-5 against the spread in its last seven games as a road favorite and the total has gone ‘over’ in 13 of its last 18 games as a favorite on the road. West Virginia is 5-2 ATS in its last seven games against the SEC and 4-0 ATS in its last four games as an underdog. The total has gone ‘over’ in nine of its last 11 games as an underdog. Head-to-head, these two met last season with the Tigers squeezing out a 20-14 victory as a 9.5-point home favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ the 44-point line.

Game Betting Pick

The Mountaineers only rushed for 59 yards in that game and the lack of a solid rushing attack this year as well could really work against them again as LSU’s defense zeros- in on Smith all day long to shut the passing game down.
