In what has to be the most anticipated matchup in recent memory, the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide square-off this Saturday night in a SEC winner-take-all showdown between the top two teams in the nation. Kick-off from Bryant-Denny Stadium is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

A well-rested LSU team will take the field Saturday night after coming off a bye. It went into its bye week fresh off a 45-10 pasting of Auburn as a 21-point home favorite. The win raised the Tigers’ record to a perfect 8-0 straight-up (6-2 against the spread) overall and to 5-0 SU in the conference. The total went ‘over’ the 47-point line against Auburn and is now 4-3-1 on the year.

Look for LSU to rely on its well-proven formula of running the ball and a stifling defense to try and upend the Tide. The Tigers are averaging 189 yards a game on the ground and will have their leading rusher, Spencer Ware back after serving a one-game suspension for a failed drug test. Their defense comes in ranked third in the nation in points allowed; giving-up an average of just 11.5 points a game.

If LSU’s defense is stifling, Alabama’s defense is downright smothering as it is ranked first in the country in points allowed; giving-up less than a touchdown a game. It has yet to give up more than 14 points in any single game and has only yielded 10 or more points three times in its first eight contests.

The result has been a perfect 8-0 SU start (7-1 ATS) overall and a 5-0 run through the SEC. The Crimson Tide is also coming off a bye after destroying Tennessee 37-6 on Oct. 22 as 29-point home favorites. The total stayed ‘under’ the 46.5-point line against the Volunteers and has been evenly split this season at 4-4.

The Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in the SEC. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 19 of their last 28 games as underdogs on the road.

The Crimson Tide are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as home favorites and 5-0 ATS in their last five conference games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in nine of their last 13 games against a team with a winning record.

Head-to-head, LSU is 5-1-1 in its last seven trips to Tuscaloosa and the road team in this series is 11-3-1 ATS in the last 15 games. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last five meetings.

Game Betting Pick

With two such dominating defense’s on the field in the same game, you would have to figure that the ‘under’ should be a lock, but these two teams will find a way to puts points on the board against each other, thus sapping the value out of the current total line. This is shaping up as a three-point game either way so take the Tigers and the 4.5 points as they ultimately prevail in Saturday night’s showdown.
