The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs travel to the blue turf of Joe Aillet Stadium for a special Tuesday night edition of college football to take on the No. 3 ranked Boise State Broncos in a Western Athletic Conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
Louisiana Tech comes into this game fresh off a 48-35 win over Idaho. The Bulldogs easily covered as a 1 ½ point home underdog and the total went way ‘over’ the 53 point line. The victory moved their record to 3-4 both straight-up and against the spread for the season. Louisiana Tech is now 2-1 in WAC play.
The Bulldogs offense features a passing game that is averaging 244.1 yards per game, ranking it 42nd in the nation. Ross Jenkins has taken the majority of the snaps behind center, but Colby Cameron has filled in along the way. Jenkins has completed 70.5 percent of his passing attempts for 885 yards and six TD’s. Cameron’s completion percentage is just 59.3 and he has five interceptions and only one touchdown in limited action. RB Lennon Creer as anchored the rushing attack with 568 yards on 95 carries. He also leads the team with four TD’s.
Boise State was idle last week and should be well rested to continue its quest for another perfect season. The Broncos are currently 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS and have extended the nation’s longest active winning streak in major college football to 20 games.
The Broncos offense is ranked near the top of the country in almost every major category. They are ranked 13th in average passing yards per game (310), 12th in average rushing yards (222.8), and fourth in average points per game (47.5). Boise State has been just as good on defense. It has held opposing teams to an average of just 12.3 points per game, ranking the Broncos second in the nation.
QB Kellen Moore has completed 105-of-151 attempts for 1567 yards and has thrown 16 TD’s against just one interception. He has completed passes to 15 different players this season but his two favorite targets are Titus Young and Austin Pettis. These two have combined for 58 receptions for 968 yards and eight TD’s. RB Doug Martin is the team’s leading rusher with 544 yards on 74 carries.
Louisiana Tech is 4-6 SU in its last 10 games but 6-4 ATS. The Bulldogs are 0-4 SU in their last four road games but 2-2 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last nine games overall.
Boise State is 10-0 SU in its last 10 games and 7-3 ATS. The Broncos are 4-0 SU in their last four home games but just 1-3 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their last 10 games overall.
Head-to-head, Boise State has won the last eight games SU, but the Bulldogs are 4-4 ATS. Last season LA Tech lost by five points 45-25 as a 20-point home underdog. The year before the Broncos covered as a 24-point home favorite 38-3.
Boise State needs to roll over every team left on their schedule in hopes of cracking into the elusive BCS top two and tonight’s nationally televised game is a perfect opportunity to showcase how good it really is. Unfortunately this has to come at the expense of Louisiana Tech, who will not be able to keep pace with the Broncos in this one even with the 37 ½ points.
