The Florida State Seminoles take on their longtime in-state rival Miami Hurricanes with ACC title hopes on the line this upcoming Saturday night at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on ABC.
Florida State rebounded from its ugly 47-17 loss to Oklahoma as a seven point road underdog with three solid wins in which the Seminoles outscored their opponents 99-24. The most impressive victory was last week's 34-14 romp over Virginia as a 6 ˝ point road favorite. Florida State is now 4-1 both straight-up and against the spread on the year.
The ‘Noles have used a relentless ground attack to power their offense as they are currently ranked 26th in the nation in average rushing yards per game with 208.6. Florida State has used a trio of backs led by Jermaine Thomas, who has 308 yards on 49 carries and has scored four TD's. Ty Jones and Chris Thompson have combined for 546 yards on 69 carries for five TD's. Expect a big dose of a ground game that is averaging 5.7 yards per carry against the Hurricanes.
Miami is also back on track after falling to Ohio State 36-24 in Week 2. The Hurricanes knocked off Pittsburgh 31-3 as a four-point road favorite and took care of Clemson 30-21 as a 3.5 point road favorite. They are now 3-1 both SU and ATS this season.
Miami has relied on its pass-oriented offense and stifling defense to get the job done so far. QB Jacory Harris has completed 68-of-119 attempts for 895 yards and 10 TD's, but has already been picked-off eight times this season. Leonard Hankerson is the Hurricanes leading receiver with 388 yards on 23 catches. RD Damian Berry leads the rushing attack with 67 carries for 327 yards.
Florida State is 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games, and 5-1 both SU and ATS in its last six. The Seminoles are 3-3 SU and ATS in their last six games on the road. The total has stayed ‘under' in six of their last eight games.
Miami is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games, but just 5-5 ATS. The Hurricanes are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS in their last four home games. The total has gone ‘over' in six of their last 10 games overall.
Head-to-head, Miami has won seven of the last 10 games SU and is 6-4 ATS. The home team is 0-4 ATS in the last four matchups with the average margin of victory only being 4.25 points.
Game Betting Pick
These two teams are closely matched again this year with the slight edge going to Miami. The Hurricanes defense will present problems for a one-dimensional Florida State offense and will try and force Seminole QB Christian Ponder to beat them with his arm. This could be a tall task against a Miami team that is ranked 15th in the country in points allowed. The Hurricanes grind out the win, but fail to cover the 6.5 points.
