The Florida State’s quest for an Atlantic Division title takes it to Alumni Stadium for an ACC clash with Boston College this Thursday night in a must-win game for the Seminoles. The kick-off is slated for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Florida State’s season has not gone according to script with losses to Clemson and Wake Forest by the identical score of 35-30, but three straight wins including a 34-0 shutout of North Carolina State this past Saturday as an 18.5-point home favorite has the Seminoles at 5-3 straight-up (4-4 against the spread). The total has been split right down the middle at 4-4.
The Seminoles still sport one of the most potent passing attacks in the nation with an average of 306.4 yards a game. Quarterback E.J. Manual has completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,776 yards and 13 touchdowns. Florida State has five different receivers with over 200 yards in catches this season led by Rodney Smith’s 468. Rashad Greene remains questionable for Thursday with an ankle injury. He is the second leading receiver on the team with 457 yards.
Boston College snapped a three-game losing streak and earned its first win in the conference last Saturday with a 28-17 victory over Maryland as a 6.5-point road underdog. The Eagles are now 2-6 SU (3-5 ATS) overall and 1-4 SU in the ACC. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their eight games.
Offense has not been the strong point for Boston College as it is ranked 101st in the country in passing and 73rd in rushing yards per game. The Eagles have only managed to put up an average of 19.9 points a game while their defense is giving-up an average of 25.1 points.
The Seminoles are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as a favorite, but just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 11 of their last 15 games as a favorite.
The Eagles are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as an underdog, but just 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 21 of their last 27 games overall.
Head-to-head, the series is knotted at three games apiece in the last six meetings, but Boston College is 3-0 ATS in the last three. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the six games.
This time around, stick with the Seminoles to move the ball up and down the field at will against an overmatched Eagles defense as they roll to a road win that covers the 16-point spread.
