College Football Bowl Betting

The college football bowl season has played out just about dead-even so far, as the favorites/underdogs and over/unders have split darn near right down the middle. And in the battle for conference supremacy the Big 12 holds the advantage so far, while the Pac-12 is at the bottom of the barrel, having yet to win a game or cover a point spread.

Bowl favorites are 16-7 straight-up so far this bowl season, and 12-11 against the point spreads. Of the seven outright upsets, though, the biggest so far has been Louisiana-Lafayette, which beat San Diego State in the New Orleans Bowl as six-point dogs.

As far as the bowl over/unders are concerned 12 bowl games have played over their posted totals, while 11 have played under. But those numbers should be reversed, because Utah's victory over Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl was under its total after regulation play, but went over in overtime.

The Sagarin ratings at USAToday.com rank the Big 12 as the best conference, top to bottom, in college football this season. And so far this bowl season that rating has held up. Big 12 teams are 4-1 both SU and ATS so far, as Missouri, Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M have all won their bowls and covered the spread. The only Big 12 team to taste defeat so far is Iowa State, which lost the Pinstripe Bowl to Rutgers.

Big 12 teams yet to play include Oklahoma State, which is favored by four points over Stanford in Monday night's Fiesta Bowl; and Kansas State, which is getting 7.5 points from Arkansas in Friday's Cotton Bowl.

Elsewhere this bowl season the Mountain West Conference is 4-3 both SU and ATS; and the MAC is 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

On the other end of the spectrum the Pac-12 is 0-4 both SU and ATS this bowl season, as Arizona State, Cal, Washington and UCLA have all gone down. Conference champion Oregon will try to get the Pac-12 in the win column when it plays Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl Monday afternoon; the Ducks are favored by five points. And, as mentioned above, Stanford is getting four points from Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl Monday night.

Also, the WAC is 0-3 SU but 2-1 ATS this bowl season; the ACC is 2-4 SU and 3-3 ATS; and the Big Ten is 2-2 both SU and ATS.
