The Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs clash this Saturday afternoon in an SEC inter-division tilt at Sanford Stadium as both teams try to continue their climb in the BCS rankings. The kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
Auburn’s chances to repeat as national champions have long since disappeared, but it can still work its way into a major bowl game with a strong finish. The Tigers moved to 6-3 straight-up (4-5 against the spread) with a 41-23 victory over Mississippi two weeks ago as 11-point home favorites. The total went way ‘over’ the 51-point line in this game and has now gone ‘over’ in five of their nine games this season.
The Tigers’ passing game is a mere shell of its former self with Cam Newton gone, but the rushing attack has remained potent with an average of 191.1 yards a game. Michael Dyer has led the way with 989 yards rushing and a team-high nine touchdown runs. Onterio McCalebb has also been effective for Auburn with 448 yards rushing on 84 carries.
Georgia is still very much in the running for a shot at playing in the SEC title game with a 7-2 SU record overall (6-3 ATS) and a 5-1 SU record in conference play. It currently has a half-game lead on South Carolina in the East Division. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of its nine games this season.
Last Saturday’s 63-16 pasting of New Mexico State as 34.5-point home favorites was the Bulldogs seventh-straight victory after opening the season 0-2. They have been able to turn things around behind a balanced offensive attack that is averaging 253.2 yards a game in the air and 175.6 yards a game on the ground. Georgia is averaging 34.8 points a game, while giving-up an average of just 19.9.
The Tigers are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games in the SEC, but just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as road underdogs. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 18 of their last 26 games as underdogs on the road.
The Bulldogs are 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games as favorites at home. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of their last 14 home games.
Head-to-head in this series, the home team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last six games overall. Georgia is 4-1 SU in the last five games and 3-2 ATS.
While 13 points is a hefty spread for a conference showdown such as this, stick with Georgia to win and cover at home as it continues to roll towards a possible shot at LSU in the SEC title game.
