The Texas Aggies, out of the Big 12, face-off against the SEC's Arkansas Razorbacks this Saturday at high noon in the Southwest Classic at Cowboy's Stadium in Arlington. Kick-off in this one is slated for 12 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Next season this would most likely be a conference game for Texas A&M, but for now it is for bragging rights between two top 25 teams. The Aggies come into this one fresh off a heart-breaking 30-29 loss to No.7 Oklahoma State as 4.5-point home favorites. What makes the loss even harder to swallow is the fact they blew a 17-point lead at the half. Texas A&M is now 2-1 straight-up on the year (1-2 against the spread) and the total has stayed ‘under' in its last two games.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has done a good job leading the Aggies' 19th nationally ranked passing offense with 892 yards and six touchdowns. He has been picked-off four times, but is completing a very efficient 67 percent of his throws. Wide receiver Ryan Swope has been his primary target with 21 receptions for 288 yards and two TD's.
Arkansas had no answer for No.3 Alabama's Trent Richardson, who ran for 126 yards and caught three passes for 85 more yards and a TD in a 38-14 loss to the Tide as an 11-point road underdog last Saturday. It was the Razorbacks first loss this season against three previous wins and it dropped them to 2-2 ATS. The total went ‘over' the 49.5-point line and is now 2-2 on the year.
The normally stout Arkansas defense was burnt for almost 400 yards of total offense in the loss to Alabama, which has to have the Aggies licking their chops. Fortunately, the Razorbacks boast an offensive passing attack that is ranked 18th in the country, so this game could turn into an all-out aerial assault.
Texas A&M is 5-2 ATS in its last seven games as a favorite and 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games overall. The total has stayed ‘under' in four of its last five games against the SEC.
Arkansas is 7-2 ATS in its last nine games against the Big 12 and 11-4 in its last 15 games overall. The total has stayed ‘under' in five of its last six games against the Big 12.
This series was renewed in 2009 with the Razorbacks winning both meetings SU and ATS. The total stayed ‘under' in both games.
Game Betting Pick
Look for another fairly low-scoring contest compared to the current 62.5 point total line, but this time it is the Aggies who come out on top on the score board and grab the point spread win
