The Arkansas Razorbacks travel to Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia this upcoming Saturday night to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks is an SEC showdown between ranked opponents. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Arkansas’s chances for a shot at playing for the SEC title pretty much ended with its 65-43 loss to Auburn a couple of weeks back, but the Razorbacks did add another conference game to the win column with their 49-14 pasting of Vanderbilt this past Saturday. They covered as a 19.5point home favorite and the total went ‘over’ the 55 point line. The win moved Arkansas to 6-2 straight-up on the year and 5-3 against the spread. The Razorbacks are 3-2 SU in conference play.
QB Ryan Mallett leads an Arkansas passing attack that is ranked second in the nation overall; averaging 360.3 passing yards per game. Mallett has completed 172-of-259 attempts for 2449 yards and has thrown 18 TDs verse seven interceptions. His number one target has been WR Greg Childs, who leads the team with 46 receptions for 659 yards and six TD catches. All told, 15 different players have caught a pass for the Razorbacks this year.
South Carolina’s season has been one heck of a ride so far after reaching the high of knocking off Alabama 35-21 in early October to coming right back down to earth with a 31 -28 loss to Kentucky the following week. The Gamecocks have balanced things out since then with two straight victories including a key 38-24 win over Tennessee this past Saturday. They failed to cover as a 17.5point home favorite and the total went ‘over’ the 49.5point line. South Carolina is now 6-2 SU on the season and 4-4 ATS. It is still very much in control of the SEC- East at 4-2 SU with a crucial game at Florida coming up in two weeks.
The Gamecocks’ offense is averaging 30.6 points per game and giving up an average of 19.5 points per game on defense. QB Stephen Garcia has completed 70.6 percent of his passes for 1904 yards. He has thrown 13 touchdown passes and seven interceptions through his first eight games. RB Marcus Lattimore leads the ground game with 722 yards rushing on 151 carries. He also leads the team in touchdowns with 13; 11 rushing and two receiving.
Arkansas is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games and 6-4 ATS. The Razorbacks are 4-2 SU in their last six games on the road and 3-3 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their last 10 games overall.
South Carolina is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games but just 5-5 ATS. The Gamecocks are 6-1 SU in their last seven home games and 4-3 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven on their last 10 games overall.
Head-to-head, Arkansas has won six of the last 10 games SU and is 7-3 ATS. Last year the Razorbacks easily covered as a 7.5point home favorite in a 33-16 win and the year before South Carolina covered as a 12.5point home favorite in a 34-21 win.
This should be a close, high-scoring affair as both teams know how to put points on the board, but the home field advantage proves to be the difference with the Gamecocks pulling away at the end to get the win and cover the three points.
