The Arkansas Razorbacks and the LSU Tigers clash this Friday afternoon at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge with national title hopes hanging in the balance in one of the biggest showdowns this season in the SEC. The kick-off for this one is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
Arkansas’s only blemish of the season was a 38-14 loss to Alabama as an 11-point road underdog, and after reeling off seven straight victories since then, finds itself in a position to make amends with a win this Friday over LSU. The Razorbacks come in at 10-1 straight-up and 7-4 against the spread. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of their 11 games this year.
If it is to have any hope of upsetting the Tigers, Arkansas will need a tremendous effort from a passing attack that is ranked 10th in the nation in yards per game. Tyler Wilson has led the way with 3,215 passing yards and 21 touchdown throws with Jarius Wright on the receiving end of 61 passes for 1,002 yards and 10 of those TD’s.
SU kept rolling along towards a spot in the BCS title game with a predictable 52-3 thumping of Ole Miss last Saturday as a 30.5-point road favorite. The win kept it perfect on the year at 11-0 SU (8-3 against the spread) with the total split right down the middle at 5-5-1.
The Tigers win last Saturday was the eighth time in 11 games that the defense has held its opponent to 10 points or less. LSU has only given-up 20 or more points twice all season; 27 in an opening-day win over Oregon and 21 points to West Virginia. The offense has been just as productive with an average of 37.9 points a game. It has scored 40 or more points in seven of its 11 games this year.
The Razorbacks are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games in the SEC and 16-6 ATS in their last 22 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last seven games on the road.
The Tigers are 5-0 ATS in their last five conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 15 of their last 22 home games.
Head-to-head in this series, the road team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings. Arkansas is 4-1 ATS in its last five trips to Baton Rouge and 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last five games between the two.
This season’s matchup is shaping-up as an ‘instant classic’ with so much on the line for both teams. The Tigers prevail to get the win at home, but stick with the Razorbacks to easily cover with the 13 points.
