The Arizona Wildcats travel to Boone Pickens Stadium this Thursday night to tangle with the Oklahoma State Cowboys in this PAC-12 verse Big 12 non-conference matchup. Game time is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Arizona got off to a strong start to the season with a 41-10 rout of Northern Arizona this past Saturday as a 27-point home favorite. The total went well ‘over’ the 47.5-point closing line. The game was actually close at the half with the Wildcats up by only four, but 27 unanswered points in the second half put the game out of reach.
Quarterback Nick Foles looked extremely sharp against the over-matched Lumberjacks; completing 34-of 42 attempts for 412 yards and five touchdowns. Wide receiver Juron Criner led the way with six receptions for 151 yards and one score. All told, five different receivers caught touchdown passes in this one.
Oklahoma State solidified its position in the top 10 by rolling over Louisiana-Lafayette of the Sun Belt Conference 61-34, but it could not cover the spread as a 38-point home favorite. The Cowboys almost took the game ‘over’ the 62-point line on their own. This one was never close as they opened-up a 34-10 lead at the half and never looked back.
Quarterback Brandon Weeden also had a big day for Oklahoma State against the Rajin’ Cajuns. He put the ball up 39 times and completed 24 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns, but was intercepted three times. Justin Blackmon and Tracy Moore combined for 15 receptions for 256 yards and one TD, while running back Joseph Randle added 129 rushing yards and two TD’s on 22 carries. Desmond Rollin also looked good running the ball with 61 yards on eight attempts for an average of 7.6 yards per carry.
These two teams met last season in the Valero Alamo Bowl with the Cowboys coming away with a 36-10 victory as a 4.5-point favorite. The total stayed well ‘under’ the 68.5-point line. Weedon threw for 240 yards with Blackmon coming up big with nine receptions for 117 yards and two scores. Look for this combination to pick-up where they left off in that late December game.
Arizona is 3-8 against the spread in its last 11 games overall and the total has gone ‘over’ in six of its last eight games.
Oklahoma State is 7-2 SU in its last nine games at home and the total has gone ‘over’ in eight of these nine games.
The Wildcats will not win this game, but behind Foles, they have the horses to run with the Cowboys long enough to cover the 14.5-point spread
