Syracuse comes into this one having won three straight games including a huge 69-64 victory over No.14 Villanova this past Monday as a 3 ½-point road underdog. This followed a thrilling 84-80 OT win over Rutgers as a 12-point home favorite last Saturday. The Orange moved to 23-6 straight-up overall but have struggled against the spread with a record of 11-16. They are currently in fourth-place in the Big East standings; 3 ½-games behind Pittsburgh at 10-6 SU.
The big three for Syracuse all season long have been junior forward Kris Joseph, senior forward Rick Jackson, and junior guard Scoop Jardine. Joseph leads the scoring with 14.7 points a game while Jackson is averaging 13.1 points and is the leading rebounder with 11 a game. Jardine rounds out the trio with 12.4 points and a team-high 5.9 assists a game.
The Orange are shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from three-point range. One area of concern has been their performance at the foul line where they are only converting on 65.8 percent of their attempts. Syracuse is averaging 73 points and 38 rebounds a game.
Georgetown followed an eight-game winning streak with losses in two of its last three games. It dropped a 78-70 decision to No.15 Connecticut on Feb.16 as a 2 ½-point road underdog. This past Wednesday night the Hoyas were shocked by Cincinnati 58-46 as a 6 ½-point home favorite. The losses leave them at 21-7 SU and 15-12 ATS. They are tied with Syracuse in the conference with a 10-6 SU record in Big East play.
Senior guard Austin Freeman leads a trio of players scoring in double-figures with an average of 17.8 points a game. Another senior, Chris Wright is the second leading scorer with 13.1 points a game and leads the team in assists with 5.4. Junior guard Jason Clark, who is averaging 12 points a game and senior forward Julian Vaughn, who has a team-high 6.3 rebounds a game round out a highly seasoned staring lineup.
The Hoyas have the eighth-best shooting percentage in the nation at 48.9 percent. They are hitting 37.4 percent of their shots from three-point range and 73.4 percent from the foul-line. Georgetown is averaging 73 points a game but is ranked 229th in the country in rebounds with 34.
Syracuse is 3-2 ATS in its last five games on the road and 3-3 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last eight games.
Georgetown is 2-3 ATS in its last five home games and 2-5 ATS in its last seven games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of its last five games.
Head-to-head, the Hoyas have won the last two games both SU and ATS including a 64-56 victory on Feb. 9 as a five-point road underdog with the total staying ‘under’ the 139 ½ point line.
Syracuse appears to have gotten back on track as of late and should be able to get the outright win verus Georgetown who will be without their second best player in guard Chris Wright.
