The North Carolina State Wolfpack will look to make their presence felt in the ACC regular season title race when they square-off against the North Carolina Tar Heels this Thursday Night at the Dean E. Smith Center. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
While the majority of the headlines in the ACC continue to go to Duke and North Carolina, the Wolfpack have quietly compiled a 15-5 record straight-up (8-8 against the spread) and are 4-1 SU in conference play. They are coming off a 78-73 victory over Miami (FLA) this past Sunday as three-point road underdogs. The total went ‘over’ the 145.5-point line against the Hurricanes and has now gone ‘over’ in 10 of their 16 games with a posted line.
NC State is averaging 77 points a game behind a balanced attack that feature five players scoring in double figures. The team is shooting 47.7 percent from the floor with C.J Leslie, C.J. Williams, and Richard Howell all shooting better than 52 percent. Scott Wood has been especially effective from long range; hitting 45.3 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
North Carolina started the season as the No.1 team in the nation, but three losses in its first 19 games, including an embarrassing 90-57 loss to No.23 Florida State as a six-point road favorite this past Saturday, has it climbing its way back up the polls. The Tar Heels are 10-8 ATS overall and 6-5 ATS at home this season. The total has gone 9-9 in 18 games.
One thing this team continues to do at a high level is put the ball in the net. The Tar Heels lead the nation in scoring with an average of 85.1 points a game, while shooting 47.6 percent from the field. They are also the best overall rebounding team in the country with an average of 46.3 a game. The three-man wrecking crew for North Carolina consists of Harrison Barnes, John Henson, and Tyler Zeller. These three have combined to provide 55 percent of the team’s points and 52.6 percent of its rebounds.
The Wolfpack are a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last five games on the road, but just 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games in the conference. The total has gone ‘over’ in eight of their last 10 games following a SU win.
The Tar Heels are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games against a team that has a winning record on the road. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last 10 home games.
The road team in this series is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in 11 of the last 15 games.
Stick with the Wolfpack to continue the success of the travelling team in this series as they keep things close enough to cover with the points.
