The Kentucky Wildcats take on the Alabama Crimson Tide this Tuesday night in a battle of 2-1 teams in the SEC. Tip-off from the Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa is set for 9 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Kentucky has been on a tear ever since losing to North Carolina 75-73 on Dec. 4 as a one-point road favorite. The Wildcats did suffer a 77-70 setback to Georgia as a five-point road favorite of Jan 8, but they have won the other nine games they have played by a double-digit margin. This past Saturday, Kentucky rolled over LSU 82-44 as a 19-point home favorite to run its record to 14-3 straight-up and 7-5 against the spread.
The Wildcats are led by a trio of young studs in freshman forward Terrence Jones and freshman guard's Brandon Knight and Doron Lamb. Jones is the team's leading scorer with 18.6 points per game and he also leads in rebounds with nine per game. Knight is averaging 17.5 points and leads in assists with 3.9 per game. Lamb rounds out the group with 13.8 points per game.
Kentucky is shooting 46.5 percent from the field and averaging 80 points as game. The Wildcats are ranked ninth in the country from three-point range; hitting 41.2 percent of its shots and 14th in rebounds with an average of 40.8 per game.
Alabama is coming off a 70-65 conference loss to Arkansas this past Saturday as a two-point road favorite, snapping a recent five-game winning streak. The Crimson Tide are currently 10-7 SU and 5-8 ATS. Their two previous wins in the SEC were a 75-57 victory over Mississippi State as a 4 ˝-point road favorite and a 57-47 win over South Carolina as an 8 ˝-point home favorite.
Junior forward JaMychal Green and sophomore forward Tony Mitchell have been responsible for the bulk of the scoring this season for Alabama. Green is averaging 15.4 points and 7.4 rebounds, while Mitchell is averaging 14.4 points and 7.9 rebounds. Freshman guard Trevor Releford leads the team in assists with 3.6 per game and is averaging 9.7 points as well.
The Tide is shooting 45.8 percent from the field but averaging just 67 points per game. They are shooting 70.8 percent from the free-throw line and 30.8 percent from three-point range. Alabama is ranked 41st in the nation in rebounds with an average of 39 per game.
