Arkansas-Pine Bluff (17-15, 1-4 ATS) has surged its way into the play-in game. The Golden Lions are coming off four consecutive victories-including a 50-38 romp over Texas Southern-and have lost just once in their past 12 games. In face, Arkansas-Pine Bluff started the season 0-11 but managed to turn things around. Unfortunately, it hasn't meant success on college basketball odds; the Golden Eagles have had action taken in four of their last five outings, but they went just 1-3 against the spread in those games.
The Golden Eagles did cover in the game with Texas Southern. Tavaris Washington led the way, scoring a game-high 14 points while adding three steals and a block in the defensive end. Terrance Calvin and Salavance Townsend led the team in scoring during the season at 10.4 and 10.2 points per game, respectively, so having players like Washington chip in is nice. Arkansas-Pine Bluff is scoring 64.4 points per game on the year. Defensively, it surrenders 64.7 points per game, but that's largely inflated due to the opening-season losing streak. In the last 12 games they've given up just 53.4 per game-and that includes two contests that went to overtime.
Winthrop (19-13, 2-2 ATS) has been very streaky, oscillating from losing streak to winning streak all year. The Eagles are currently riding the good kind-a three-game winner, including a 64-53 victory over Coastal Carolina. This will be the team's first game in 10 days, however. Sportsbooks have taken action on Winthrop over its last three games and the Eagles have responded; they've covered the past two, both as an underdog.
Senior Mantoris Robinson paced Winthrop in the win over Coastal Carolina, scoring a team-high 14 points. Robinson was the team's third-leading scorer on the year at 8.2 points per game and finished second in rebounding (6.2 RPG). The team's first and second-leading scorers-Reggie Middleton and Matt Morgan-have been inconsistent as of late. Each has produced two single-digit scoring efforts in two of his last four games. Winthrop scores slightly less than Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 62.4 points per game. The Eagles allow 61.4 on "D."
Game Prediction
Withrop is far superior offensively to the majority of the Golden Lions competition in the SWAC. Arkansas-Pine Bluff did not hold any non divisional opponent to below 65 points. Take the OVER 113.5
