San Antonio (60-19, 44-33-2 ATS) has rebounded from a recent six-game slide, winning three consecutive games. The Spurs covered in all three of those victories, including a 124-92 win over Sacramento on Wednesday.
The offense has been absolutely blistering lately, with the Spurs averaging 111.6 points per game during the current winning streak. Just about everybody got into the mix in the rout over the Kings, with five different players hitting double figures. Manu Ginobili scored 25 points to lead the way, and he’s been much sharper in his past two games after a recent slump. Ginobili is 16-for-28 from the field in his last two outings, averaging 21.5 points.
If you want sharp shooting, though, look no further than Tim Duncan. The forward has been absolutely on fire since returning from an ankle injury, making 31 of his 49 field goal attempts—63 percent. Duncan went 4-for-6 for 12 points against Sacramento.
While the offense is clearly firing, the Spurs have been just as good at the other end of the court. The “D” appears to be tightening up with the playoffs on the horizon, as San Antonio is allowing just 93.0 points per game in its past three wins.
Utah (37-42, 32-45-2 ATS) is completely miserable. The Jazz have just a single win in their past 10 games, a shocking upset over the Lakers. The Jazz lost 98-87 to Portland on Thursday, falling to 1-5 in their past six games against the spread.
The mounting losses could continue until the end of the season given some key injuries. Point guard Devin Harris is battling a hamstring injury that cost him seven games. Harris returned against the Trail Blazers and looked great, racking up 26 points—but there’s a chance he’ll shut himself down for the season since the club is already eliminated from the postseason.
Harris is just one of a half-dozen injured players, five of whom won’t even be making the trip to San Antoino. Mehmet Okur has already missed time, while fellow center Kyrylo Fesenko is now down with a fractured thumb. Throw in forward Andrie Kirilenko and guards Ronnie Price and Raja Bell, and the Jazz will be very shorthanded on Saturday.
San Antonio is 6-4 both straight up and against the spread in its last 10 games against Utah, and the Spurs have covered two straight. The total has gone under in three of their past four meetings; BetUS.com has set the total for Saturday’s game at 200 points.
There is no way that we can back Utah in this spot even with the generous point spread, so we're going to have our action on the total. The Jazz have failed to reach their season game scoring average in 8 of their last 10 and we expect that to continue tonight in San Antonio.
