The Suns (11-9, 9-10-1 ATS) endured a pretty tough schedule over the first chunk of the season. Finally, with some weaker squads on tap, Phoenix is taking advantage. The club has won four of its last five games, including three straight, all against sub-.500 teams. Phoenix is also riding a three-game winning streak against the spread after beating Washington 125-108 on Sunday.
Steve Nash delivered a huge performance against the Wizards, scoring 20 points and dishing out 17 assists. Even more impressively, Nash didn't miss a single shot; he was 8-8 from the field, including a three-pointer, and hit all three of his free throws.
Phoenix also got a great effort from Hakim Warrick, who led all scorers with 26 points. Warrick has been hit-or-miss off the bench. In his previous three games, for example, he scored just 14 points. If the forward could find some more consistency in his game, Phoenix's already potent offense would be even better.
Portland (9-11, 9-9-2 ATS), on the other hand, is struggling for answers. The Blazers imploded during a six-game losing streak, which they finally ended with Sunday's 100-91 win over the Clippers. Portland covered but has won just two of its past seven games against the spread.
If you're looking for someone to blame, start with Portland's best players-at least if you ask Nate McMillan. The head coach called out his stars after Clippers game, singling out Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and Andre Miller.
That trio is the major part of an awful shooting team. The Blazers are making just 43.2 percent of their shots this season, fourth-worst in the NBA. Over Portland's past 10 games, the club has shot over 42 percent just twice; the team is averaging just 89 points per game in that span, with its highest output being exactly 100 points (twice). Against Los Angeles, the Blazers shot 39.7 percent from the field.
Portland and Phoenix have split their last 10 games against each other. The Trail Blazers have a very slim edge against the spread, going 5-4-1. The teams hooked up in October, with Portland winning 106-92 on its home court; the Blazers covered the 7.5-point spread. The total has gone under in the last five games between Portland and Phoenix. BetED has set the total for Tuesday's game at 204 points.
