The Heat rebounded from a lifeless loss to the Celtics in Game 3, emerging with a 98-90 overtime win over Boston on Monday night. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have been labelled the Big Three since joining Miami, and they couldn’t have been any bigger in Game 4.
James paced the team with 35 points and 14 rebounds; Wade scored 28 points and grabbed nine boards, while Chris Bosh added 20 points and 12 rebounds. Overall, the trio combined for 83 of Miami’s 98 points and 35 of the team’s 45 rebounds. No other player on the Heat scored more than four points. It was a rather impressive display after the trio combined for just 44 points and 18 rebounds in Game 3—their lowest combined output of the season.
To make matters even scarier for Boston—or whoever Miami might face in the Eastern Conference Finals, should it close out the series—the Heat are close to getting a boost at forward. Udonis Haslem played in Game 5, his first action since undergoing foot surgery in November. Haslem played just under three minutes, picking up a pair of fouls and missing his only field goal attempt. Still, he’ll be a very useful role player if he can get back into shape in time.
Boston simply ran out of gas on Monday, and it appears the team’s age has finally caught up to it. The Celtics owned a slim lead heading into the fourth quarter, but they were outscored 17-13 to allow the Heat to tie it. The Celtics were then overwhelmed in overtime, losing that period 12-4. Paul Pierce missed a potential game-winning shot at the end of regulation, and Boston shot just 1-for-6 in overtime.
Kevin Garnett was a major disappointing. Garnett tormented the Heat inside in Game 3, racking up 28 points and 18 rebounds. He was expected to try it again on Monday, but Garnett mostly stuck to outside shots and went 1-for-10, finishing with just seven point. Coach Doc Rivers said Garnett “as looking to be a passer… more than being an aggressive scorer.” If that doesn’t change in Game 5, Boston is certainly finished.
The total went over in Game 4 and has gone over in three out of the four games in this series (it went under in Boston’s Game 3 victory). BetED has set the total for Wednesday’s game at 181 points.
