Miami (30-12, 19-22-1 ATS) is suffering through a three-game losing streak. The Heat were dropped 99-96 in Chicago on Saturday, its third straight loss against the spread. All three defeats came on the road.
The losing streak also coincides with an ankle injury to LeBron James. James has missed back-to-back games and his status for Tuesday's game remains up in the air, though most feel he'll be able to suit up. Without him, Miami has struggled.
It didn't help that Chris Bosh joined the mash unit in the loss to Chicago. Bosh played just over 30 minutes thanks to an ankle sprain of his own. The lanky forward finished with 17 points and five boards. He's questionable for the Hawks game and, should he be unable to go, Joel Anthony would likely get the start. Anthony played 38 minutes against Chicago but finished with just two points and five rebounds.
So, in the meantime, it looks like it's up to Dwyane Wade to carry the team. While that's not exactly a new concept for Heat, it hasn't gone quite as planned. He did just fine against Chicago, racking up 33 points and six rebounds, but he was terrible two games ago (16 points on 7-19 shooting).
Atlanta (27-15) is coming off a 100-98 victory against the Sacramento Kings. You have to wonder if playing on the road is going to catch up to the Hawks against Miami, though, as it'll be their eighth road game in their past 12 outings.
Regardless, the Hawks are at least playing the kind of basketball they did last year. Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford seem to have found a nice groove (although Crawford was terrible against the Rockets this week).
Miami has a slight edge in the head-to-head series, winning six of its last 10 meetings with the Hawks. The teams have met just once this year, with the Heat winning 89-77. It was the fourth straight time Miami has covered against Atlanta. The total has gone under in three of their past four games; BetED has set the total for Tuesday's game at 185 points.
