The Seattle SuperSonics may be second-last in the Western Conference standings, but they're first in the hearts of NBA betting aficionados across North America.

The Sonics' prolific offense is putting up huge numbers on the scoreboard - they're second overall in the league averaging 102.3 ppg. Meanwhile, thanks to a virtually non-existent defense, the Sonics are allowing the most points in the NBA at 106.8 ppg.

With those two factors combined, Sonics' games have been high-scoring affairs which is to be noted when considering where to place your wagers. Through 50 games, Seattle has seen 35 top the total. That's an OVER rate of 70 percent.

Oddsmakers have obviously adjusted to the Sonics' high-scoring games and have increased their totals. But they're still not there yet.

For instance, through their first 20 games, the Sonics' average total was 197. Over that time, they were 15-4-1 on the OVER/UNDER. In their most recent 20 games, the average total had increased to 208. Through those games, the Sonics were still 12-8 on the OVER/UNDER.

In their previous 13 games prior to Monday, the Sonics saw nine games go OVER the total (69 percent).

In the coming week, the Sonics play three teams with lower scoring offenses and tighter defenses (Bucks, T-wolves and Spurs). Thus, they could see some games go UNDER.

What they may not see, however, are wins against the number. At 18-32-1 ATS as of Monday, the Sonics have the worst betting record in the NBA. In their past 20 games, Seattle is just 5-15 ATS.

Meanwhile, bettors may still want to place wagers on the Dallas Mavericks, who have been on an incredible run both straight up (SU) and against the spread. On Friday, the red-hot Mavs had a 13-game winning streak snapped in Denver. During that streak, Dallas was 11-2 ATS.

The Mavericks are still a fairly high-scoring team, but they have dipped a little from the previous few years when they were among the top two or three in scoring offense - as of Monday they were averaging 100.1 ppg (6th overall).

At the same time, they have become more defense-oriented and are allowing 93.2 ppg, eighth fewest in the league.

With a shift in focus from offense to defense, Dallas games have been dipping below the posted total, particularly during their winning stretch. Through their past 14 games, 10 have fallen UNDER the total.

The Mavs could see a higher scoring game on Wednesday when they play the Wizards, who have a higher scoring offense and a weaker scoring defense.
