Can anybody beat the Yankees (+200)? They are now running away with the AL East and their pitching is starting to step it up. They have been on fire in the 2nd half of the season and after sweeping the Red Sox a couple of weeks ago they are playing with tons of confidence. Their one concern is their middle relief, but with the offense the Yankees have that may not matter much.
The Dodgers (+500) are still in the lead in the NL West, but that lead has recently dwindled down to a couple of games. Their offense is in a big time slump and the hard charging Rockies are right on their tails. Manny and company need to start putting runs on the board or they miss the playoffs.
The Red Sox (+600) may be out of the race in the AL East, but they still lead the AL Wild Card race. They recently picked up reliever Billy Wagner from the Mets, but their starters, especially Josh Becket, needs to pitch better down the stretch. They will battle it out for the Wild Card with the Rangers and the Rays. If the Red Sox do not make the playoffs, can you say choke?
The defending champion Phillies (+500) have been one of the hottest teams in the 2nd half. Picking up Cliff Lee was HUGE, as he is undefeated since switching leagues. The Phillies offense is stacked and their pitching staff is much better with the addition of Lee and Pedro Martinez, but Cole Hammels needs to snap out of his season-long slump.
The Angles (+700) were on fire, but they recently had a hiccup and lost 3 straight. They still lead the Rangers by a few games in the AL West. Their pitching staff has taken a beating lately and they need to get back on track. There is no problem with the Halos offense, as they have scored the most runs in the Majors this season.
The Cardinals (+800) now have the NL Central pretty much won and their staff got a boost when the recently signed John Smoltz was stellar in his first start for the Red Birds. Matt Holliday was a great pickup and Albert Pujols is, probably, the shoe-in for the NL MVP.
The Rangers (+1500) are in the Wild Card race and it is because of their pitching. Yeah, I said Rangers pitching! Their offense is solid, but they have to pick up a few games on the Red Sox in the Wild Card race.
The Tigers (+1500) have been playing steady and still have a few game lead in the AL East. The White Sox were supposed to challenge them in the division, but they are slumping and the Twins are charging hard after recently winning 5 games in a row.
Other teams that still have a shot to make the post-season are the White Sox (+2000) Giants (+2000), Rockies (+2000), Marlins (+2000), White Sox (+2000), Rays (+2000), Cubs (+2000), Braves (+2500), and even the Twins (+10000).
Here are the odds at Sportsbook.com to win the World Series this season.
